Adrien is a merfolk prince who’s fascinated by the human world but his father, King Gabriel, hates humans as they’re responsible for his wife’s death. While visiting the surface, Adrien saves the life of Princess Kagami and falls in love with her. After an argument with his father, he goes to a Witch and trades his voice for a spell that could turn him into a human. Now, Adrien needs his True Love’s Kiss to regain his voice but things get confusing when, besides being in love with Kagami, he also falls for the seamstress Marinette and the musician Luka. Meanwhile, Gabriel (who’s completely unaware of Adrien’s disappearance) searches for a way to bring his wife back to life, not caring that there are some things he shouldn’t be messing with.

I finally did it! The picture that I was most looking forward to drawing is done! I wanted to finish it today so that I could post something for MerMay.
Adrien as an angelfish mer-person for a The Little Mermaid ML AU that @princess-of-the-corner and I brainstormed together. It's one of several Disney Princess-inspired ML AUs that have Lukadrigaminette (Luka/Adrien/Kagami/Marinette) as the endgame pairing.
I love mermaid designs that give the mermaids traits of a fish species or sea animal, so I decided to do the same when designing MermAdrien. I choose to give Adrien the traits of a freshwater angelfish because they are pretty fish that people like to admire like how Adrien is a handsome and famous model in the show. Also, the fact that he has traits of a freshwater fish that people often kept as a pet represents this Adrien's desire to live in the human world. The colors were inspired by black-and-silver striped angelfish and to allude to Adrien's identity as Chat Noir I also gave him cat eyes and fangs to make him look cooler, and because Cornerverse had this idea that magical people have fangs.
Plagg in his Aqua form is there because the Miraculous are part of the AU though they're not as powerful as in canon. They're still ancient magical jewelry with little magical beings connected to them but there are no transformations and the powers that people receive are nerfed/not as strong compared to canon. The Kwamis are pretty much just familiars that guide whoever wields the Miraculous. They can change their forms to adapt to any environment, basically what they do in canon with the power-ups except that it's an innate power and not the result of a potion. Since Adrien was merboy when he found the ring in a shipwreck, Plagg is in his Aqua form so he can be by Adrien's side. He changes to his more familiar form after Adrien becomes human.
