Out of curiosity, why do you think that barioth and nargacuga shouldn't be grouped together?
First thing’s first, I know this is you Artistic-Octopus since I got this question immediately after you liked a post I made about nargacuga and Barioth. I would have liked to answer this privately so I’m not constantly spamming my blog with answers to questions.
But no harm no foul, and monhun is a hyperfixation of mine.
People constantly group the two together because they’re vaguely cat-like but constantly ignore the various differences between the two such as differences in skull, wing, and tail anatomy as well as differences in armor and locomotion.
Got any tips on drawing anime eyes?
Can Cerberus rotate their heads?
Of course Cerberus can rotate their heads!!! and very very fast too,,,,,,,,,,
Have we confirmed what purpose ceratopsian quills serve?
Not that I'm aware of.
They still seem mostly to be considered as a display structure -- but that’s a pretty broad category, and sometimes it’s just another way of saying “we don’t actually know”.
Have you made a post analyzing the bonnacon yet? I'd love to see how you could explain an animal expelling flaming shit at its enemies
I have not. The species are chosen by my Patreon Supporters, and folks can vote in the polls from as little as $1 a month to determine what the next species will be, or suggest them directly.
The current poll is between the Furby, Drop Bear, and the Bonnacon as you suggested.

How do you come up with unique designs for monsters?
Ooh this is an interesting question! For monsters particularly there are some specific traits I like! For instance I like really thick and strong necks, it’s like my default way of drawing them and I even draw them on some non monster characters lmao! Large forearms, longer torsos, shorter and stocky legs, flat noses and smooth heads all tend to be traits I use in my monster designs!
This is how I like to draw necks on my thicc bois! It’s not exclusive to monsters but it’s my default for monsters! Any head shape can be applied as well! I always start out with the default circle but I always play around with head shapes!
(this character design is still in the works) The shape of the head could influence the whole read of the body. The head on the right shapes the neck differently than the one on the left, but mind you it doesn’t have to! I also preferred the smoother look without plates for the head on the right whereas I liked the plates on the head on the left! Once I have a head shape together I figure out what I want the head to look like. I’m very fond of two eyes as you can see but I always struggle with the decision of external ears since I love smoother shapes or mixing things up!
This design is also still in the works but it’s gone through a lot of revisions and I’m still not settled on a look yet! I tried mixing things up regarding head and mouth shapes as well as playing around with ears.
Other than that it just comes down to what sort of accessories I want to use and how I want them arranged. Do I want spines down the back? One row or two? Fins? Horns? Spikes? Fringes? Everything after that just involves colors which are subjective to the designer! Take Jahaida for example. I had his color palette long before I ever knew what his design would be. I have a whole file of color palettes I think up randomly despite not ever knowing what they’ll end up on. Usually when I think up a monster design, I sketch it out and see what of my stored palettes look best on it!
I held onto this color palette for months before actually putting it on a design!
And that’s about it! Sometimes I feel like I tend to use the same traits a little too much and don’t branch out enough lmao but this is generally my process for things! Also this mostly applies to how I design my original monsters that aren’t supposed to be based on anything, my fishmen are a completely different process but this is getting kinda long cx Sorry this got so long but I hope it maybe helps in some way c’:
