Meet Designer of the Month, Malini Ashok. She took over Concept Nation in a swift brush but left an impression that is far beyond everlasting. We reckon she can sing a song as beautiful as she can paint a picture.
We introduce to you the very talented yet humble, Malini Ashok, designer on Concept Nation. Read further to learn about her artistic journey.
Tell us a little about your educational background and shed light on how you found art or whether it was vice versa.
“I completed my schooling in Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir and Engineering from Adi Shankara in Kerala. My school of art dates back to my childhood observations. I often find inspiration that spurs creativity when I am close to nature. What is reflected in my art is something I see and sense in all objects that surround me. The images I create are a beautiful collaboration between my perception and imagination. When I paint, my mind is my guide and I surrender myself to my imagination with help from my brushes, fingers and hands."

“Art is my passion, essentially the heart and soul of my existence. My art beckons all, to enjoy my art through my vision & feeling is something I take pride in. There are few people in my life who inspire the artist in me, that being my mother, few of my beloved teachers who I have always followed and highly respected.”
Do you have any favorite artists or designers who you draw inspiration from?
“I derive motivation from many artists around me as it gives me immense pleasure to visualize their exceptional works. For instance, artist Raja Ravi Varma’s Rassouli painting depicts woman’s beauty and spiritual energy and I could easily use that as inspiration to create a piece of mine. Speaking of inspiration, I have always felt an in-depth relation between music and art. Many of my creations are based on my audio reaction to certain musical notes. I am trained in music and dance as well which helps me bind the two beautiful art forms together.”
Had you not walked down the path of artistry, any ideas on what you would be doing?
“To me, I simply cannot imagine a world without art. So I am certain that I would have or art would have found me one way or another. To best narrate to you how essential art is a part of my life, I would like to share a quote,
‘The fire of desire is the catalyst for the creation of every great work of art.
Everything we do is prompted by the desire to become the inspiration that moves the world.’ – Rassouli”
Are we now close enough to ask you how you like to spend your Saturday nights?
“On weekends I like to relax and evaluate my achievements. My sister (double times as a graphic designer for Concept Nation) and I indulge in meaningful conversations regarding art. My husband is an acoustical engineer which spurs his creativity. He motivates me with every step I take in my life and always has a creative idea exchange with me when I am in doubt. Saturday nights are usually my husband and I hanging out with friends. I like to keep art close me seven days of the week!”
What is your take on the future of art and design?
“In the near future, I plan to spend more time on art that links together with music. To me, music is the final art piece produced where the instrument acts as a canvas on which colors and tones combine to form tunes. The media is different for both art and music but to me they both are in motion. I definitely want to research further on this topic and then create art stimulated from the same subjects.”
We don’t mean to brag, but why did you choose to work with Concept Nation and how has your experience been so far?
“I feel like I am part of the most creative artistic nation that is building up creative world for others to join. I am beyond happy to see people viewing our world through CN, thanks to the guys at the brand. They are spreading word through the radiance of imagination.”
