Out of curiosity, what kind of salaries do people in your area of work make? I'm considering going into something similar but I'm trying to weigh my options

it depends! if you’re working in industry and crop breeding, you’re pretty much able to raise a middle class family/support yourself/even buy a house at the trade of having to be complicit in mass monocropping! also, the job security is great; depending on if you’re in the field or not, you’re pretty much working a 9 to 5.

academia pays.....mmm....not as much. and if grant money runs out you risk being out of the job. your best bet at getting a good, solid job where you can support yourself is either in government work or at a university (the university allows you to research most of the time, too!). 

these are the fields that i’m most knowledgeable about; i know there are other botany jobs out there that provide good enough pay, especially in service jobs (arborists, landscapers, biodiversity surveyors, etc), and farming is a viable career, also. greenhouses and flower shops notoriously have a hard time staying afloat financially.

I really like your cat. Is he an oriental shorthair ? Doesn't look pure bred though, maybe a siamese and oriental?

His breeder registers with TICA, so I think they allow for a bit more outcrossing to get more colors into the Siamese. His mom was a seal tortie point Siamese, and his father was a chocolate point Siamese that looks just like Tobi! 

By CFA standards this would be a cross between Siamese and Colorpoint Shorthair since “tortie” is an introduced color form, but TICA considers it to be Siamese through and through.

This is his momma with baby Tobiko somewhere in that mess of new kittens!

Backwoods florida has a very distinct energy. It's very homey, but in a dangerous way. If you get too comfortable, you might never leave. I've lived here too long. It's wonderful. Trees whisper at night, the sun is always bright and hot, and you never know who's real and who isn't.

I’ve never experienced a lot of this, but I can definitely confirm that the Florida night is far too loud in the backwoods. The cicadas and frogs and nightbirds almost drown out the rustling of wind-that-isn’t-there. I don’t know how to describe it but it’s spooky as hell.

So I work in Photoshop CC 2017! 

And for shading I use the lasso tool and gradient tool like this!

I use the lasso tool to select where I want to shade.

And then I use the gradient tool to fill it in! It’s super easy and works really well to make clean gradient shading. 

And then as far as how long I’ve been drawing, basically since I could hold a pencil. I started seriously focusing on art around 17-18, did two years at an art program at my first state college, but I decided I want to do a full art school after a year off, so I’ve been doing that for a few semesters now!
