If an interactive and colorful arcade isn’t enough to check out FAILE: Sacred/Savage Young Minds, how about a live DJ set by Grammy Award-winning music producer and recording artist Swizz Beatz? Kaseem “Swizz Beatz” Dean, who is also an art collector and friend of FAILE  (a.k.a. Brooklyn artists Patrick McNeil and Patrick Miller), will be laying down hip hop tracks that have gotten him to work with major artists like Beyonce and Jay-Z. This Thursday, July 23rd, you can catch Beatz along with Brooklyn’s own DJ Runna, who will be the opener for our Art Off the Wall: FAILE event. You can catch the performances starting at 6:30 throughout the museum!

Calling all pinball wizards! This Thursday, July 23, we will be hosting another Art Off the Wall inspired by our new exhibition FAILE: Savage/Sacred Young Minds. The event revolves around a tournament inside FAILE’s Deluxx Fluxx Arcade, a highly interactive and visually stimulating installation of pinball machines and video games made in collaboration with artist BÄST. In addition to the Deluxx Fluxx Arcade, the exhibition features statuary and interactive installations referencing street art, pop culture, art history, and the landscape of New York City. 

The event also features a special DJ set by FAILE friend and Grammy Award-winning producer and recording artist Swizz Beatz and opener DJ Runna. Whether you come for the games or the beats, this is one event that is not to be missed!

When taking the Q train home from the museum every day, I am never surprised to hear a stereo blare and a ringing voice call out, “It’s shoooowtime!!!!!” In fact, as a seasoned commuter does, I tend to sigh and shuffle to the side as to not get kicked in the face. Yet this week, with the anticipated opening of The Rise Of Sneaker Culture, something caught my eye—a sapphire-blue shoe—the sneakers of a dancer vaulting himself off of the ceiling.

So I’m happy to say that we’ll be collaborating with Mindlezz Thoughtz—a Brooklyn based arts and media company—to bring dancers to Art Off the Wall’s dance-off this Thursday. Lite Feet dancers, who populate the NYC underground, will show off their kicks to kick-off our newest exhibition.

Tomorrow (7/16) we’re partnering with Sean Williams from Obsessive Sneaker Disorder (OSD) to host Sole Sister Revolution, a roundtable discussion that will address an underserved and very misrepresented consumer base... WOMEN! 

With #sneakerculture now at the Brooklyn Museum, we saw this as the perfect time to address the fact that women are not properly represented as professionals and consumers in regard to the business of sneakers” says Sean Williams of OSD. This program will feature a panel which is comprised of women from various areas of the industry who represent the various points across the spectrum from the business and professional side of sneakers to the consumer and collector aspects as well. Esteemed guests on the panel will be Susan Boyle (Owner of Rime NYC sneaker Boutique), April Walker (Fashion Icon and Owner of Walker Wear), Sole De Vida (famous sneaker enthusiast and online personality) and, Sophia Chang (Graphic Artist and Illustrator who released her “Brooklyn” collection with sportswear brand Puma last year). We anticipate Sole Sister Revolution being the eye opener that exposes the inequity that currently exists in the sneaker business and we expect the point to be driven home very effectively by the very inspirational women on the panel.
