#tbt of my artwork for Ancient Grudge. I never would have guessed this card would have become so popular at the time I painted it years ago. This was my second time ever painting fire. Wow, my artwork for Die Young for Magic: the Gathering won a Chesley Award this weekend for Best Gaming Related Illustration 2017!!!

I'd like to thank Sara Felix, the ASFA Board, and the ASFA Community for this opportunity. My family and friends for their endless support in a career that is not always easy. So many late nights and weekends devoted to doing what I love.

Thanks to my Art Director Dawn Murin and the WOTC Creative Team for commissioning me this illustration. Kaladesh for Magic: the Gathering is a plane full of invention and celebration, they let me tell a tragic yet beautiful depiction of a dying Aetherborn.

It's humbling to be among artists I truly admire, Ryan Pancoast, Matthew Stewart, Cliff Childs and Mauricio Calle, It's an honor to be on the same list as you. You should never forget where you came from and that's why I would like to end saying this, as corny as it sounds never give up on your dreams especially when times are rough. Use your struggle in your artwork and if it's genuine people will relate. I would like to dedicate this award to my father Terry Yee who was an incredible illustrator and person. Your life was taken too soon, and you never had a chance to see me mature into the person I am now. Wherever you are, this one is for you Dad <3

My art for Ixalan- Lookout’s Dispersal

Movement is significant in my decision making. Adding movement immerses the viewer into your image.

There’s a lot of ways to visualize this whether it is adding repetitive shapes/ angles, rhythm in the composition, particle FX/magic, anticipation of movement/ carry through of movement, camera angle or depth-of-field. These are all tools you can use in your artist handbag to create a sense of movement in your work.  

I had a ton of fun creating this image, I hope you enjoy it!
