I drew Sovaliah
loosey goosey colored sketch of Ayem
Headshot of Avinah for @thenaaru! She was a ton of fun to draw o/
My latest labor of love. I learned so much working on this one. Here she is, Sovaliah!
And here is Sylayn Telos, a Nord/Dunmer lady for my guildmate who won the Heralds raffle prize!
Been practicing more art lately with ProCreate. I started using Haze Long’s brushset and watching her videos to learn some more tips and I think it’s paying off!
Anyway here’s Kanna-Zhirshek, my Redguard/Imperial (Akaviri) lady!
I’ve been doing this class via a free trial on skill share and even though it’s only like 90 minutes of video content, I’ve been learning SO MUCH - particularly because the teacher talks about what tools to use specifically in programs like PS and ProCreate. I was testing out some of the lessons I learned and decided to challenge myself to create a palette of Sovaliah’s skin tone since I have been drawing Dunmer from TES so much lately. Since they have grey skin, it can be challenging to make them look like they are alive and there is actually blood under the surface of the skin.
So I thought I would eyeball reference a screenshot for the colors. Decided to go with this one despite the garbage resolution.
I sat here staring at this pic for several minutes willing my brain to observe the different colors, and after awhile I came up with these swatches with MaxU Gouache Clean brush from the Gouache Maxpack. Using ProCreate for this and those brushes were downloads.
I know from character creation in ESO that Dunmer skin tones are green-grey and blue-grey so I started with a basic green-grey tone. The longer I looked, the more I saw different colors, like the light blue on her brow, the dark blue shadows under her eye and along her nose. The peach on her cheeks, and of course the gold light from the sunset.
Then using the tip from the class to blend in ProCreate using the smudge tool + soft pastel brush, I got this! I was happy to compare it to the screenshot and see it really does look like her skin!
Anyway I know this probably isn’t exciting to like anyone else but me lmao
I just wanted to post it though so I could go back to it and because it was so helpful for me to try this exercise. Definitely can still amp up the contrast with some darker shadows and brighter highlights, but I think it’s a good start and it was a fun learning experience.
