OutPost Naponsett Nibi (“that place there where water crosses”) owns, preserves, and amplifies Mattapan, MA as ‘a good place to be’ -- to make that the cultural marker for our community.
OutPost Naponsett Nibi is an arts-driven network creating collaborative outdoor space for artistic play, creative expression, social activism and civic engagement. Our name, Naponsett Nibi, pays homage to the Neponset River as an under-appreciated cultural asset, affirming its beauty, its history, and the critical relationship between the river’s health and community resilience here in Mattapan, MA. Always/Already drawing inspiration from our indigenous and African ancestors, our lead artists are committed to bringing their studio, social, and civic praxes to bear on the collaborative work/play that occurs here.
Outpost Naponsett Nibi is a transit-oriented, 5K square-foot open-air art space located at 7 Riverbank Place in Mattapan, MA. It is a seasonal venue for live arts and creative expression focused on building community through the arts. All are welcome.

Info session about two outdoor art opportunities: Upstream: Call for Artist Submissions inspired by the Neponset River Downstream: Boston Harbor [Re]creation Artist in Residency Where: Info session at the Boston Harbor Hotel Leventhal Center, followed by a site visit to Spectacle Island. When: Saturday, August 12th 11:45 check in and light refreshments 12:00-1:00 Info session begins promptly at 12 1:00 Walk from Boston Harbor Hotel to Long Wharf North 1:30 Boat from Long Wharf North to Spectacle Island 2:15 Meet Ryan Edwards, one of the 2017 Artists in Residence to learn about his residency work. There will also be an open house tour of the yurt. Boats leave Spectacle Island at 2:30, 4:30, and 6:00 More info: bostonharbornow.org/recreation Finding the Leventhal Center: Rowes Wharf is on Atlantic Ave, about a 10 minute walk from the State Street Orange Line stop, South Station, and a 5 minute walk from the Aquarium Blue Line stop). Once you are at Rowes Wharf, walk all the way through the rotunda and turn left. The door to the center is on your left. (There is construction) FAQ: Why should I attend this: If you are an artist whose inspiration comes from nature, you will gain access to the program leaders and can get insights that will allow you to put together a compelling project or proposal for next summer. If you are an arts leader you can gain info to so you can get the word out to your constituents about this opportunity Free ride to the island (tickets are $17) Being part of a group of artists interested in this work is sure to generate excellent discussion about connecting with nature through art, and may lead to collaborations!
