One of the oddest things about Chaldea is that different iterations of the same Spirit from different point in their life could exist at the same time. Cú Chulainn and Arturia Pendragon were prime examples of this.

Though the younger manifestations were not completely ignorant of the fate that would eventually befall them, to live and breathe with their future selves was jarring. Especially when the kids knew exactly who captured their older versions' hearts.

Alexander would eventually attach himself to Lord El-Melloi II. Occasionally the Jaguar woman. Kid Gil would eventually find himself inseparable from Enkidu. After a confusing love triangle, Cú Chulainn and EMIYA would choose each other.

Arturia Pendragon would end up alone.

As the days passed, this knowledge made Saber Lily hesitant about liking the littler Cú. She wanted to be positive, but why bother trying when she knew the ending?

Sétanta was of a different opinion. His older self's actions motivated him to hold Lily's hand a little tighter, hug her a little closer, kiss the back of her hand a tad bit more often. He didn't care that his fully grown self made the wrong choice. He was making the right one with Arturia Lily.

"Hey, Sétanta," she said, hugging her legs to her chest as her little knight plopped down beside her. "Don't you think it's kinda wrong for us to...like each other this much?"

Sétanta blew a raspberry, elbowing her side lightly. "Nah. Ain't our fault adult stuff complicates things."

Snatching up her hand and interlocking their fingers, he gave his princess a wide grin. "I like us just fine."

He even made a little show of kissing the back of her hand. That always made her go red as a tomato. It didn't work this time around though.

"But..." Arturia trailed off, sinking further into her knees.

The Puppy of Ulster let out an exasperated sigh as he scratched the back of his head. Dang, did he really have to say it? Did he? Ugh, it was just so corny!

Sétanta snuck a look around them, hoping and praying there wasn't anyone near enough to hear. Thankfully, it seemed the coast was clear.

"Listen, princess," he said bashfully, tugging on their interlocked hands 'til his pretty little girlfriend looked up to meet his eyes.

"I love you, okay?" he confessed, stressing his words so she'd understand. "I love you."

The way her beautiful green eyes lit up brought heat to his cheeks. Dang it. Dang it. Dang it. He'd never be immune to that.

Okay, keep cool, Sétanta. Keep cool.

The boy swallowed and cleared his throat. "It don't matter what happens to our older selves, m'kay? They're dumb."

Lily giggled and pressed a small kiss to his flaming red cheek. He was right. Why worry about the future when she had something so wonderful in the present?

Leaning her head onto his shoulder, she could finally say this without a doubt:

"I love you too, puppy."
