We are thrilled to share that we are accepting applications for an amazing scholarship opportunity for k-12 visual art teachers called ArtXchange. ArtXchange is a 5-session course of explorations in visual art practice. The sessions take place over the course of the academic year from November–May. The first session on November 30th includes a close look at artworks with a curator, and an experimental exploration of materials in the studio. During this session teachers will share what techniques, materials, ideas, and teaching practices they would like to explore throughout the course. Following, the educators leading the course will select practicing teaching artists—based on the interests shared in the first session—to lead the remaining four sessions. Each session will include time in the galleries to work closely with works of art, and time in the studio to deepen practice with specific materials and ideas.
As one of the educators for the course, I am particularly excited by the driving principle of this course. This course envisions the participants not as teachers first, but as artists. We have established this vision because we believe it is important for teachers to have the space to explore for themselves as adults with curiosities and interests, with the understanding that the enthusiasm and learning that happens will be translated into the teacher’s classroom practice.
Applications are being accepted through November 10th. Please send us an email if you have any questions—we would love to hear from you!
