Cooper often resented being back at home with the family, he had his own life now, he did his own thing. Being back in Ohio with the Anderson’s, only reminded him how far he’d come, and how much he really didn’t belong here. Still, his mother only had one birthday a year, and he only really needed to be here for a couple of days before he could escape back to LA, back to his own life.

Tapping his fingers against his glass, the corner’s of his mouth twitched up into a grin as Blaine took to the stage for the annual ‘Anderson Brother’s’ karaoke. Cooper was hoping he’d get away with it this year, not that he was trying to shy away from the limelight, but it was always the same thing, the same routine that they’d been performing together since they were kids. Nothing had changed, and knowing his family, he doubted it ever would.

Laughing as Blaine beckoned him up onto the stage, he rolled his eyes and placed his glass on the table behind him, and got to his feet. “Only for you, Squirt,” He told him, muttering against his ear as he joined his younger brother on stage, much to the delight of the rest of the Anderson family.

But Cooper was worried, sure he’d never show it, he always made sure to put on a confident front, sometimes a little too much, but that was just a part of who Cooper was. He had a tendency to over-compensate things, he had done all of this life, so when his career was failing, he made sure to play it off as him simply taking a break, as he’d had so many big jobs recently, that he wanted to kick back and relax with his family, when in fact he’d been struggling to make rent properly for months now. Every time he came back to Ohio, he made sure to brag about all the amazing things he’d been doing, all of the amazing things he’d seen, showing off to Blaine and all of his friends about life after high school, and how amazing it was, not letting on that he’d do literally anything to go back to where they all were now, and do it all over again. 

Not that he’d ever say any of that aloud.

But when his agent called with an audition, something that could really kickstart his career in the best way, Cooper found it difficult to play it cool, to pretend that it wasn’t a big deal. Of course, Blaine had sensed the shift in his behaviour straight away, so when Cooper tried to brush off his concerns, Blaine remained firm in place, adamant that there was something going on that he didn’t know about.

“I hope you’re right, Squirt,” he admitted with a small nod of his head, thumbing through the script that his agent had sent him yet again, wondering whether to finally open up to Blaine, to tell him how tough things had been for him recently. But as he looked up at Blaine’s hopeful face, he realised he just couldn’t do it, not right now, maybe some day, but not now. “It’s been a while since I hit some of them Hollywood parties, I wouldn’t want to risk people forgetting about Cooper Anderson anytime soon, now would I?”
