Let not any Muslim belittle another Muslim, for the lowest of the Muslims is great in the Sight of Allaah.
Abu Bakr as-Siddeeq (radiAllaahu anhu) [Ihya' 'Ulum ad-Din, 3/400]
Shall I not inform you who is the best of this Ummah after its prophet? it is Abu Bakr. Shall I not inform you who is the best of this Ummah after Abu Bakr? It is Umar.
Ali ibn Abi Talib (radiAllaahu anhu) [Collected by Ahmad and authenticated by Ahmad Shakir (rahimahullah)]
"If he said so, then he has told the truth"
Abu Jahl (father of ignorance) was out for some of his needs, when he passed by the Ka'bah, and saw the Messenger of Allaah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) sitting alone in the sacred Mosque. He was silent, absorbed in thinking. Abu Jahl wanted to hurt the Messenger of Allaah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) with some of his ironies. He came near to him and said: "isn't there anything new (of revelation) that has come to you tonight?" The messenger of Allaah (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) raised his head towards him and replied firmly: "Yes. Tonight, I was made to go in a night journey to Jerusalem in Sham."
Abu Jahl said disapproving: "And in the morning, you returned among us!" The Messenger of Allaah said, "Yes." Abu Jahl shouted madly: "O Sons of Ka'n ibn Lu'ai! come here!" All of the people of Quraish came, calling one another. At this time, Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) has not yet talked to anyone of his companions about the new of his Night Journey. The people gathered near Ka'bah, and Abu Jahl went on talking to them cheefully about what he has heard (from the prophet), thinking it to be a good opportunity for all those who believed in the Messenger of Allaah would turn away and disperse from him. One of the Muslims who were present at this time proceeded and asked: "Is it true, O Messenger of Allaah, that you were made to go in a night journey to Jerusalem?" The Messenger of Allaah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) replied: "Yes, and I led the prayer there with my brothers from the Prophets."
However, the feeling agitated among the gathering people about that were different. As for the polytheist, they welcomed what they had heard, thinking it would put an end to (the call of) the Messenger of Allaah. There was a group of Muslims, which fell in doubt about it. Some of the cheifs of Quraish went to the house Abu Bakr, merrily and gloatingly, having no doubt that they would return with the news of his (Abu Bakr's) desertion of this religion.
That is because Abu Bakr knew more than others the long time and the hard journey one had to take from Mekkah to Sham. Then, what about the one who says he went there, offered the prayer, and then returned home in no more than few hours? When they reached the house of Abu Bakr, they shouted: "O Atiq! The whole matter of your companion (The Prophet) was, before this time, too easy to endure. But now, come out to hear (what he had said)." Abu Bakr, who got surprised, came out to them, calmly and respectably. He asked them: "What is the matter with you?" They said: "Your companion." Abu Bakr trembled and said: "Woe to you! is there any harm to him?" They said: "He is now sitting by the side of Ka'bah, telling the people that his Lord made him go in a night journey to Jerusalem." Another person proceeded to resume mockingly: "He went at night and returned at the same night, and now, in the morning, he is among us." Abu Bakr smiled and said: "What harm is in this (which he said)? I believe him when he tells me about that which is farer and more distant than that. I believe him when he tells me about the news of the Heaven, which comes to him either in the morning or in the evening. If he said so, then he has told the truth."
The best of mankind after the Messenger of Allaah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) are Abu Bakr and Umar. Love of me will never be united with hatred of Abu Bakr and Umar in the heart of a believer.
Ali ibn Abi Talib (radiAllaahu anhu) [At-Tabarani narrated in al-Awsat]
I cannot count the number of times that I heard Ali say upon the minbar, ‘Truly Allaah named Abu Bakr through the tongue of His prophet, a Siddeeq.’
Abu Yahya (radiAllahu anhu) [Ad-Daraqutni and Al-Hakim]
Prophet (sallallahu alyhi wasallam) ordered Abu Bakr to lead the people
Ubaidullah b. Abdullah reported: I visited 'A'isha and asked her to tell about the illness of the Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam). She agreed and said: The Prophet (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) was seriously ill and he asked whether the people had prayed. We said: No, they are waiting for you.Messenger of Allaah. He (the Prophet) said: Put some water in the tub for me. We did accordingly and he (the Prophet) took a bath;and, when he was about to move with difficulty, he fainted. When he came round, he again said: Have the people said prayer? We said: No, they are waiting for you, Messenger of Allaah. He (the Prophet) again said: Put some water for me in the tub. We did accordingly and he took a bag, but when he was about to move with difficultyhe fainted. When he came round, he asked whether the people had prayed. We said: No, they are waiting for you, Messenger of Allaah. He said: Put some water for me in the tub. We did accordingly and he took a bath and he was about to move with difficulty when he fainted. When he came round he said: Have the people said prayer? We said: No, they are waiting for you, Messenger of Allaah. She ('A'isha) said: The people were staying in the mosque and waiting for the Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) to lead the last (night) prayer. She ('A'isha) said: The Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) sent (instructions) to Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer. When the messenger came, he told him (Abd Bakr): The Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) has ordered you to lead the people in prayer. Abu Bakr who was a man of very tenderly feelings asked Umar to lead the prayer. 'Umar said: You are more entitled to that. Abu Bakr led the prayers during those days. Afterwards the Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) felt some relief and he went out supported by two men, one of them was Al-'Abbas, to the noon prayer. Abu Bakr was leading the people in prayer. When Abu Bakr saw him. he began to withdraw, but the Prophet of Allaah (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) told him not to withdraw. He told his two (companions) to seat him down beside him (Abu Bakr). They seated him by the side of Abu Bakr. Abu Bakr said the prayer standing while following the prayer of the Prophet (way sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) and the people prayed (standing) while following the prayer of Abu Bakr. The Prophet (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) was seated. Ubaidullah said: I visited 'Abdullah b. 'Abbas, and said: Should I submit to you what 'A'isha had told about the illness of the Prophet (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam)? He said: Go ahead. I submitted to him what had been transmitted by her ('A'isha). He objected to none of it, only asking whether she had named to him the man who accompanied Al-'Abbas. I said: No. He said: It was 'Ali.

Three moons
Aishah (radiallahu anha) saw a dream in which it was as if three moons had fallen into her home. She gave an account of her dream to Abu Bakr, who said, "If your dream will come true, three of the best inhabitants of earth will be buried in your home." Later on, when the prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) died and buried in Aishah's room, Abu Bakr reminded Aishah of her dream by saying, "O Aishah, here is the best of your moons." [Tareekh Al-Khilafah, By Imaam As-Suyootee (pg. 139) Her dream became completely fulfilled when Abu Bakr and then Umar were buried in her house.
A Book of Guidance, Stick to it for the Right Path
Narrated Anas bin Malik (radiAllahu 'anhu): That he heard ‘Umar (radiAllahu 'anhu) speaking while standing on the pulpit of the Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wasallam) in the morning (following the death of the Prophet), when the people had sworn allegiance to Abu Bakr (radiAllahu 'anhu).
He said the Tashah-hud before Abu Bakr (radiAllahu 'anhu), and said,
“Amma Ba’du (then after) Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has chosen for his Apostle (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wasallam) what is with Him (Paradise) rather than what is with you (the world). This is that Book (Quran) with which Allah (swt) guided your Apostle (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wasallam), so stick to it, for then you will be guided on the right path as Allah guided His Apostle with it.”
