Sa’id b Al-Musayyib reports from his father, “I was once sitting with Umar when a group of people arrived from Al-Sham. Umar enquired about them and how they were; he asked, ‘Do the people of Al-Sham hasten to break the fast.’ He said, ‘Yes.’ [Umar] said, ‘They will not cease to remain upon good as long as they do this, and do not wait for the stars [to come out] as the people of Iraq do.’”

Prophet [saws] on Ali [as]: Hadith

[أمالي الصدوق: 83 / 49، وعنه في البحار 38: 93 / 7]

ما رواه رئيس المحدثين أبو جعفر ابن بابويه في "الأمالي " - في المجلس الثامن - عن محمد بن علي ماجيلويه، عن عمه محمد بن أبي القاسم، عن محمد بن علي الكوفي، عن محمد بن سنان، عن المفضل بن عمر، عن ثابت بن أبي صفية، عن سعيد بن جبير، عن عبد الله بن عباس، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): إن الله أمرني أن أقيم لكم عليا علما وإماما وخليفة ووصيا - إلى أن قال -: إن عليا صديق هذه الأمة، وفاروقها، ومحدثها، إنه هارونها، ويوشعها، وآصفها، وشمعونها، إنه باب حطتها، وسفينة نجاتها، إنه طالوتها، وذو قرنيها

Great narrator - Abu Ja`far ibn Babuwayh - in his Amali, Gathering number 8: From Muhammad ibn Ali Majilu’ie, from his uncle Muhammad ibn Abi Al-Qasim, from Muhammad ibn Ali al-Kufi, from Muhammad ibn Sinan, From al-Mufathal ibn `Umar, from Thabit ibn Abi Safeya, from Sa`d ibn Jubyar, from Abdullah ibn Abbas, he said: Messenger of Allah [saws] said:

Allah [swt] has ordered me to provide to you Ali as a Caliph, as a Divine Leader (Imam), and hold him high in status. Ali is the Siddiq (Truthful) of this Ummah, and he is the Farooq (The Divider between truth and falsehood), and its Muhhadith (the Narrator). He is best described as the Haroon, and the Yosh`binon of this Ummah, he is the Sham`oon, he is the mysterious door, and the Ark of Salvation, he is the Ta`loot, and Dhul Ka`rnāyn.

There can be no Islaam in the person who does not perform salah.

The first one to establish the (hijri) calendar was Umar ibn al-Khattab (رضي الله عنه) two and a half years into his caliphate. He reached a decision in consultation with Ali Ibn Abu Talib (رضي الله عنه).

O Umar! There are those who hate you as well as those who love you. It is however, a very old practice for people to hate good and to love evil.

Umar's ring had the inscription:

كفى بالموت واعظا يا عمر (Enough is death as an admonisher, O Umar.) [Tareekh Ibn Asakir (pg. 221)]

Three moons

Aishah (radiallahu anha) saw a dream in which it was as if three moons had fallen into her home. She gave an account of her dream to Abu Bakr, who said,  "If your dream will come true, three of the best inhabitants of earth will be buried in your home." Later on, when the prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) died and buried in Aishah's room, Abu Bakr reminded Aishah of her dream by saying, "O Aishah, here is the best of your moons."  [Tareekh Al-Khilafah, By Imaam As-Suyootee (pg. 139) Her dream became completely fulfilled when Abu Bakr and then Umar were buried in her house.
