“They worried about you, every single day. It was hard not to break my promise and tell them you were still here.” AsaOiSuga - undercover Asahi AU
And another addition to the Undercover Asahi fake death au! I hope this is as good as the others. :)
Asahi sits in one of the tiny corner tables, the ones half hidden at the back of the shop, and watches Suga and Oikawa twist and turn around each other as they work behind the counter. He can practically still feel the kisses from the day before, and his heart feels lighter than it has in a long time, though he knows that it’s only one step of many yet to go. He watches as they laugh and greet Daichi when he comes in, teasing him even as they prepare his favorite drink, and wave him off with a smile to attend the next customer.
Daichi grins at him as he settles in the seat across the table, hot mug of coffee placed carefully in front of him. Asahi has long gotten past blushing every time Daichi catches him thinking about the others, but this time he has a look on his face that brings the pink to his cheeks anyway. “I haven’t seen them this happy in ages. It’s nice.”
Asahi looks down into his own mug. He knows he’s the reason behind the unhappiness, and it will never feel any better to hear about. “Yeah?”
“They worried about you, every single day. It was hard not to break my promise and tell them you were still here.”
He winces. “I know. I’m sorry to have put you in that situation.” He looks back up, towards the counter, where Suga’s wrapped his arms tight around a fond looking Oikawa during the lull in customers. “I just really needed to know they were okay.”
Daichi takes a sip of his coffee and sighs in pleasure. “Relatively speaking.”
“Yeah.” At the counter, Oikawa twirls Suga around by one hand, his apron fanning out around his legs, his delicate laugh drifting out into the rest of the shop. “You realize they’re gonna be pissed when they find out you knew the whole time.”
Daichi shivers a little and wraps his hands around his mug. “Of course. It’s their right. I just really hope Suga doesn’t hit that hard, though.”
Asahi nods. He’s been on the receiving end as well, and even Suga’s most playful punches were dangerous and painful. With actual malice behind them, there’s no telling what (or who) might end up broken by the time he’s done. Daichi had become a fixture in Suga and Oikawa’s shop, and lives, fairly quickly, and Asahi is grateful that he allowed himself to be put in such a difficult spot for Asahi’s mental well being. “I’ll talk to them with you, you know. It’s not really your fault, after all.”
“Together.” Daichi grins. “That’s what partners do, yeah?”
“Yeah.” Asahi’s attention gets pulled back to the front again, where Suga’s sat on the front counter, Oikawa between his spread knees. They’re whispering to each other, and though no one can hear what they’re saying, they can hear the laughter. It’s the nicest thing that Asahi has heard in a long, long time, and he can’t wait until he gets to hear it every day.
