Happy spooky WBW! I wanna focus on ghosts today. Ghosts and/or the afterlife are super important in most worlds. What are spirits like in yours? Real or imagined? Good or evil? Sacred or common? 👻
Happy spooky WBW Tori! Thanks for stepping by! :)
I have a ton of WIPs as of now, so I'm gonna focus on the one that's actually about ghosts! A screenplay I for now only have a basic summary for.
So, in this storyline, you become a ghost when you have some unfinished buissness before your death. Something that you yourself are not happy with. The ghost the story is centered around - Franz, the bandit king - used to be a great thief only out for money and success, though he never really formed any meaningful friendships with anyone, only putting his value on his physical wealth, which is the reason why he is bound to the hidden treasure in his old castle. He has somewhat of a friendship with the current owner of the castle - the two of them run it as a cheap tourist-trap and share the profit, but Franz still lacks the connection to anything besides money. This is why is arc revolves around leaving the material desires behind and actually becoming friends with the protagonists.
As for how ghosts work, I was kind of inspired by an old german audioplay-series I used to listen too a lot as a kid: You can feel ghosts and they can touch and interact with things, but they feel very, very cold. They can turn themselves invisible and walk through walls, but only when they try really hard.
I also figured it could be interesting is the ghosts always had some reminder of how they died with them. Franz died in the late 1700s by the hands of some sort of illness that he wasn't able to cure, so I imagine he constantly feels like he has a cold. Another ghost that I wrote out of the story was a thief that got electrocuted in the 1910s and her thing would be that she's always itchy and on the edge, unable to stay in one spot.
