hdhdjjsshsss gotta love having blackouts every now and again. I literally have 2 deadlines and midterms to prep for but that’s okay. I’m fine! At least I can use this time to draw huntrix again— oh wait no! Silly me! None of my devices have charged fully because of, you guessed it, the recent power outages! Yippee!!!!

Anyway here’s a sketch I made (sort of in the dark) of Mira reading through and doing my RPA and AGE lab protocols because, at this point, I’m just trying to cope.

Pre-Surgical Exam of Me

This was a lab practical where I have to do everything short of surgery. Intubation, checking the anesthetic machine for leaks, preparation of the patient, proper aseptic technique, draping the patient. Identify instruments, what makes a good medical record. All that jazz.

Last semester, I got hives when using the chlorohex based scrub and for that final, they allowed me to do an alcohol based one, but had no rubric.

This semester, I reminded my course moderator of all this and she confirmed I would do the alcohol based scrub.

Well, my examiner today accused me of trying to get out of doing more work like everyone else. He tried to force me to do the same scrub as everyone else. I refused and he threatened to fail me completely. I want to do surgery in a couple weeks so badly and this man was trying to take that away from me. I asked for my course moderator, through gritted teeth, because I'm not exposing myself to a known allergen and having a worse response this time.

She finally came and set things straight, but this man never apologized and that really bothered me. He was never willing to consider my words. I then asked for another examiner because I felt I was being treated unfairly and was granted that.

Don't let people bring you down or push you into things you know are unsafe. Be the advocate for your health and your well-being.

There's a lot to be said for good aseptic technique

The whole Xenomorph mess, the entire franchise, could have been avoided if the people in that universe would just follow basic quarantine control methods.

We got the results of our aseptic exam back today.

There were three sections worth 5 points each. If you messed up in any of the parts of the three sections, that section resulted in an automatic zero.

I broke asepsis almost immediately after starting my exam by touching the inside of my gown which resulted in an automatic zero for that section. Then, while draping, I put one of my drapes 0.5cm too close to the incision site and also got an automatic zero for that section.

 I ended with a 5/15, but I still have the chance to remediate the skills. I just need to pay more attention to what I’m doing and stay calm.
