Derek’s grown accustomed to living alone, so when Stiles moves in, it’s an /adjustment/. There’s a constant presence, constant noise, constant movement in the corner of his eye that Derek hasn’t dealt with in ages, really. So even though Derek’s the one that suggests moving in together, he spends a lot of time going out on a run or making the grocery trips bc he realizes he misses that space. Stiles notices bc of course he does, he notices everything, he sees everything, he’s always watching -
Derek, and he wants to bring it up, but he also doesn’t want Derek to feel embarrassed about it. So instead, one afternoon Derek comes home and sees a little note on the table next to the couch. There’s a set of noise-cancelling headphones next to the note, and a new fleece throw blanket draped over the arm of the couch. Derek picks up the note and all it says is ‘had Scotty test ‘em. Blocks out noise even for a big bad wolf like you. Blanket already smells like us. Want you to be able to have your alone time at home, too. Cause this is our home now, Derek. Not gonna be peaceful, that’s for damn sure, but I can at least help you find the quiet.” And stiles gets back a while later and finds Derek on the couch with his eyes closed, headphones on, blanket draped over his lap. Stiles walks closer and waves a hand in front of Derek’s face slowly until Derek catches his scent and opens his eyes. He goes to take off the headphones and Stiles just grins, shakes his head. Mouths ‘I love you,’ kisses him gently, and tucks the blanket tighter around Derek’s body. When Derek comes to find him a while later, he just whispers a soft ‘thank you’ and Stiles is v quiet for a good two minutes and then - ‘I have /got/ to tell you what happened at work today.’ And the story lasts /ages/ and Stiles is constant movement and noise, but it doesn’t feel foreign anymore. It feels like home. And all Derek wants is a home with Stiles.”
