Sorry to bother you but I was wondering if you’re still going to continue A Shadow from the Sky. I really love it and I just kinda want to if I should have hope or not lol. Thank you so much for writing it though, I was just rereading it. All the character interactions are so much fun.

Short answer: Yes, I plan to continue and finish ASFTS!

Long answer:

The bulk of ASFTS was written in 2020 and early 2021, and while I edited and posted some chapters last year, it’s been a while since I’ve been in the thick of it. At this point, I’ve forgotten as many plot threads and details as I’ve written hahaha.

The remaining plot has a few holes that need patching, and there’s some choreography/logic I never nailed down to begin with. To write the rest, I have to figure some of that out as well as re-familiarize myself with what’s already written.

There’s also the fact that last year, when I moved, some of my things were stolen… including a box that had my fic notebook in it, in which I was planning a lot of ASFTS. While everything was duplicated on gDrive as a solid outline, the loss of that notebook and all the raw brainstorming in it hugely deterred me from working on ASFTS. Basically, I couldn’t look at ASFTS without grief over the theft as a whole for… a long time.

Ultimately, working on ASFTS has had a lot of personal hurdles. But despite it all, it’s an extremely important fic to me, and I’m determined to see it through.

That said, good news! There’s a few more chapters I wrote in early 2021. They’re rough and somewhat incomplete, but I’ve recently started working on them again, thanks to recent wonderful, generous and kind comments that reminded me why I loved this fic so much and wrote it so passionately. Once these chapters are revised I will definitely post them! (I’ve reread some of the posted fic itself too, and wow—I forgot how fun it is! Almost like it was written to tailor to my exact tastes! Whoda thunk it)

I am SO sorry but I checked out the fic you just updated and immediately read part of the description as "thrust into Kansas" and I paused to think why you were writing a reverse Wizard of Oz before actually checking what you were writing

OH MY GOSH I've been seeing your Danny Phantom stuff since I got back on Tumblr, and I thought your URL was kinda familiar so I clicked on your blog and I can't believe you write A Shadow from the Sky!!! It's one of my favorite fics ever and I've been following it since the third chapter! It's just really cool to find out that a favored fic author shares other fandoms with you, ya know? on that note I just found the shrunken Kaito AU and I love it. Keep being awesome!

Hi! I've been reading your fic "A Shadow From The Sky" nonstop (which I LOVE to no end, it's amazing, captivating, has small moments/details and chaos. I only know the basic structure of both series, but it has drawn me into your little world(s). I catch myself smiling so often reading it. I can't stress enough how great your story's everything is!!!), and I noticed in comments you would use the abbreviation OTL a lot, but I don't think I've ever heard it before. Could you explain what it means?

OTL is an emoticon rather than an abbreviation! it's like... a little guy on his hands and knees in defeat. O is the head, and TL is the body (T is torso/arms, and L is the bent legs) djfhsdkh

I googled for a reference and I think maybe people are more familiar with it as orz (that links to the know your meme page which honestly describes it better than I can)

it only took 5 months, but... here's a new chapter of A Shadow From The Sky!

nanowrimo 2021 | day 1 - 1,739 words

allllrrrighty, it's the first of my lil nano'21 posts! i plan to make a few of these throughout the month, whenever i have some interesting things to say. so if you follow a shadow from the sky... hopefully these posts will have something of interest to you :"D

first order of business: chapter 27! which, alongside its sister, chapter 28, have been in a sad half-drafted state for a long time. i'd really like to nudge them over the finish line to "fully drafted" because they contain vital Plot that, without the details of, I've had a hard time writing beyond.

why have they been so half-baked for so long? well, lots of plot threads are vying for attention right now, and we've got the introduction of a character i've never written before, so.... yipes. it hasn't been entirely motivating!

...but hey, nano's just the thing for motivation! today, i more-or-less roughed out 3 important bits of ch. 27 that previously had me stumped. that plus a new scene break, some banter, notes to improve a couple transitions, and a whole lot more re-reading my own months-old slap-dash writing than i'd prefer, i feel like i can see the chapter's shape coming together. i'd previously estimated this chapter would wrap up around 8k, but with this, we're probably looking at... 10k minimum. i think the same will happen for ch. 28. (both are starting out with about 7k already on the page.)

so that's today! as for the immediate future, i'm aiming to have both ch. 27 and 28 in workable states before the end of the week. after that, i'll backtrack to ch.24, which is already drafted, but the final scene is missing a character... meaning it needs some major revisions before I can send it off for beta'ing/eventual posting. then: onwards and upwards with ch. 29! and then maybe even further...!!

how far? good question. we've got 38 chapters on the outline for this beast of a thing. i wonder how many i can get drafted before nano's out? :P

ch.23 is actually one i wrote the first draft of ages and ages ago, and only finalized edits on recently. in fact i reread it tonight to review my beta's edits, and had one of those moments like, "hey, this ain't actually half bad (when not too long ago I felt like it was a horrible pit of despair)" ... i had especially little confidence in the final scene (action scene??? what action???), and all of the things tied to dcmk canon events in the first conversation between Conan & Haibara (because god what a tangled mess, i'm sure i'll need to do yet another reread of both dc and mk before too long to refresh my memory of all the details djfhasdjfh) SO, yes, very very nice indeed to hear that you were thrilled by it <3

i wish i could wrap up this reply with some promises about future updates but unfortunately, between irl jobwork and other projects, i... can't 😭 but i've got several chapters already roughed up, and i hope to get a few more underway with nanowrimo coming up! if nothing else, i will do everything in my utmost power to avoid another 5-month gap between uploads 💓
