Chapter 10 (Epilogue)
Six years later
The sweet smell of blooming flowers welcomed me as I stepped into the garden, and the sun warmed my skin as I wandered down the winding paths. I rubbed soft circles over my swollen belly, trying to soothe the restlessness of our growing baby as I walked. The sun glistened off the running water of the fountain in the far corner of the garden, where I could hear familiar voices as I crept closer. I stopped behind a large tree a few feet from the fountain as I watched the heartwarming scene play out in front of me.
“Again! Again!” our young son shouted at Thor.
“Modi,” Thor chuckled; he tried to resist but quickly picking him up again. Thor gently tossed our son over his head, causing a fit of giggles to burst from Modi’s lips. A beautiful smile was spread across Thor’s face as he laughed; moments like these were some of my most cherished. Thor went out of his way to set aside the time to be a father; nothing, not even being king, came before his children.
“Brother! You are going to wake her,” someone hissed, drawing my attention. Turning slightly, I noticed the familiar green of Loki’s cloak as he twirled in slow circles, opposite Thor and Modi. As Loki turned his body again, I saw the small body of 3-year old Thrud, tucked in his arms, her head leaning on his shoulder, a tiny hand fisted in his curly black hair. I recognized the lullaby Loki was singing as one Thor taught me; their mother used to sing it to them as children. Loki may have hurt his brother many times over the years, but I never doubted how much he adored his niece and nephew; he was trying to be better.
“Loki, you are growing soft,” I chuckled as I walked towards him.
“Look at her; how could I not,” he whispered, a small smile pulling at his lips.
“Mommy!” Modi yelled, wiggling free of Thor’s grasp.
“Hello, my love,” I greeted him warmly.
“Little one, what are you doing out here?” Thor questioned.
“I can’t stay cooped up all day, dear,” I sighed, pouting.
“Fresh air is always good (Y/N),” Loki cut in, smirking at his brother.
“How are you feeling today?” Thor asked, his large hand resting on my protruding stomach.
“Good. Tired but good.” I smiled up at Thor, his blue eyes meeting mine. Thor leaned down, keeping his hand on my stomach to press a soft kiss to my lips.
“I love you, my queen,” Thor whispered against my lips.
“And I love you, my king,” I sighed, connecting out lips again. “Ow!” I jumped, my hand pausing next to Thor’s.
“Awe is someone jealous,” Thor laughed, having felt the violent kick of his second son. “I love you too, Magni,” he chuckled again, leaning down to press his lips to my stomach. Seconds later, Modi ran by grabbing Thor’s hand; the sudden contact caught Thor off guard, causing him to stumble before chasing after his son. I shuffled towards the bench near Loki, needing to get off my feet; Loki took a seat next to me, gently repositioning Thrud in his lap.
“Where’s Sigyn?” I asked as he continued softly singing to his niece.
“The market. She is looking for something for our anniversary,” he sighed, rolling his eyes; I caught the ghost of a smile on his lips. “Oh well, hello darling,” Loki chuckled. I glanced over to see Thrud stirring, whispering something to Loki as she twirled one of his curls around her tiny finger. I watched my daughter giggle with Loki, a tender smile on her lips, before turning towards the sound of laughter to see Thor fighting with Modi to get out of the fountain, a joyful smile on his face. The weight of how truly lucky I am settled around me; nothing could compare to this.

Chapter 4
I stood on the balcony, my head still spinning from Odin’s realization less than an hour ago.
“Darling?” I heard Thor’s voice somewhere behind me. “There you are,” he hummed, joining me to look out over his future kingdom. “The healers are running tests now.”
“This is destined to yours one day,” I mumbled, watching the daily life of the Asgardians below me.
“That it is,” he sighed. “My father didn’t scare you,” Thor noted, gently rubbing the arm closest to him.
“I’m sorry, looking back on it now, I probably should’ve been more respectful.” I looked down at my feet, shifting nervously as I waited for him to say something.
“I thought it was extraordinary,” Thor said with a smile.
“What?” I questioned, raising a brow at him.
“I’ve watched many women face off against my father in one way or another, and they’ve always backed down. Before you, the only other woman I’ve ever seen stand their ground against him was my mother.” His face fell slightly, a tight smile apparent on his lips.
“I still feel bad for disrespecting him,” I grunted.
“If he were still bothered by it, you’d know, little one,” he chuckled, moving behind me. Thor placed his hands next to mine on the edge of the balcony, leaning into me. His head fell onto my shoulder, his breath raising goosebumps on my exposed skin; I leaned my cheek on the side of his head, enjoying the warmth of him pressed against me. I turned in his arms, realizing how tired he looked when he lifted his head; suddenly, it hit me how exhausted I felt too.
“You look exhausted,” I breathed, tracing the shape of his cheek bone. Thor leaned into my touch, his eyes drooping closed as he hummed deep in his throat.
“So do you. I almost forgot that the party was only a few hours ago on Earth,” he chuckled.
“Oh my god, I forgot it was even the same day,” I gasped, blinking a few times. “Y-you’re coming back with me, right?” Fear sent my heartrate through the roof with the realization that he might be staying.
“I plan on it,” he replied, calming my runaway heartbeat.
“Good,” I hummed, brushing the pad of my thumb across the edge of his stubble. “We never did finish what we started,” I purred. Thor’s eyes fluttered open, exposing the darkening blue that sent a bolt of arousal between my legs.
“I almost forgot,” he rumbled, his voice dropping an octave or two. Thor didn’t skip a beat before gently pressing his lips to mine; the kiss was sweet and gentle at first, but I craved more. As if he knew, the tip of his tongue traced the shape of my lower lip, asking for access. I shuddered at the first brush of his tongue against mine; Thor gently sucked my tongue into his mouth, coaxing a soft moan from me. The sound seemed to ignite something in him and he pressed me into the railing with his hips, his hands coming up to cup my face. I lightly bit his lower lip, forcing out a surprised groan; his hands slid away from my cheeks, settling in the curve between my neck and shoulder. My hands roamed over his chest, tracing the shape of his armor, slowly moving towards his face; I threaded one hand into his hair, tugging him impossibly closer. Thor let out a breathy moan that I vowed to hear again, no matter I had to do. A soft creaking noise caught my attention but the expert flick of his tongue against mine drew me back in. I pulled on his hair again, this time a fairly loud growl left his mouth, his hips pinning me against the railing, a distinct hardness pressing into my stomach.
“Your Highness?” Sif called from behind Thor. I squeaked in surprised, shoving Thor back a little too hard. He stumbled back, gripping my shoulder and pulling me with him. He tried to even out his breathing, glancing down at himself; I bit my lip to stifle a giggle when his cheeks took on a pink color.
“Yes, Sif,” he barked, fidgeting with his pants.
“Sorry to interrupt, but your father requires your presence,” Sif replied, dropping her eyes when I leaned around Thor.
“Thank you,” he huffed, running a hand through his hair. The door opened and closed with a soft creaking, indicating Sif left, and we both let out a long sigh.
“We are never going to get a chance to finish this,” I laughed.
“Maybe on Earth we’ll get some time alone,” Thor chuckled, shaking his head, and smiling. “Come, we don’t want to keep father waiting.” He offered his hand, wiggling his fingers until my hand slid into his; Thor guided me into the hallway, pressing a tender kiss to the back of my hand. We found Odin standing on a balcony near the front of the castle, surrounded by the same guards from earlier and Sif. We stepped out into the sun, walking closer to Odin but I let Thor’s hand fall away, standing back as he approached his father.
“The healers found something. It turns out we are in the presence of a halfling,” Odin mumbled, never facing Thor.
“What does that mean?” Thor asked, his eyes boring into his father’s head.
“One of her parents was of Asgard,” Odin stated, looking over his shoulder at me.
“I’m Asgardian?” I gasped. I blanched, my head spinning as I tried to comprehend what just came out of Odin’s mouth. One of my parents wasn’t from Earth? Thor stepped away from his father, reaching for my hand in an attempt to steady me. “Now, I could not object if she were to be queen one day,” Odin snorted.
“What!” I squeaked. “Is your father trying to marry us right now?” Thor stiffened beside me, his wide eyes snapping between me and his father.
“I am only joking,” Odin laughed, his shoulders shaking. “I would not object, but I have no intention of pushing anything on you.”
“Breath, little one,” Thor whispered in my ear as he stepped behind me. I took a deep breath, trying to comprehend what just happened; Thor was still rigid behind me.
“I will leave you, so you have time to think. Will you stay for dinner, my son,” Odin asked, turning towards us.
“I think I should take Lady (Y/N) home, father,” Thor confessed, squeezing my shoulders. “It’s been a long day.” Odin gave him an odd look, his eyebrows pulling together. “We were celebrating on Earth then came straight here, so we’re both tired.” Thor sighed when he finished, his fingers still kneading the tense muscles of my shoulders.
“Of course, will you be back?”
“Yes, just, uh, not right away,” Thor stuttered.
“Good. Now I was joking, but I would like to see you bring Lady (Y/N) back,” Odin chuckled, smiling warmly at me.
“Thank you for welcoming me.” I tried to smile at him, but it felt more like a grimace than a smile.
“Please know you are welcome on Asgard, you have a right to citizenship here. I hope to see you again. I do quite like a woman with no fear,” Odin quipped before leaving the balcony.
“Let’s get you home,” Thor said, steering me toward to front of the castle. I don’t remember much of what happened on the walk through Asgard. I finally snapped out of the tornado of thoughts when we stepped onto the rainbow bridge and started to make our way back to where Heimdall stood to watch.
“I’m sorry about that,” Thor rushed out as soon as we were alone.
“Hey, it’s okay. It caught me off guard, is all,” I assured, knocking shoulders with him. I sucked in a steadying, deep breath, relived it was just us now.
“You’re not the only one,” Thor sighed.
“I’m Asgardian,” I mumbled. “What does that even mean?”
“Whatever you want it to mean, little one.” Thor smiled at me, a flurry of emotions swirling in his eyes. “It means you’re welcome to stay on Asgard or stay on Earth. But you have to make that decision yourself.” Thor’s smile seemed to falter, twitching down into a slight frown. My exhausted brain couldn’t handle trying to catch up with the new information; the thought of deciding what planet to live on was too much. I could feel the telltale signs of a headache starting to blossom between my eyes.
“I guess we should talk about what we’re even doing too,” I said slowly, testing the waters.
“What do you mean?” Thor cocked his head to the side, glancing over at me.
“See, now I know where you get that from now,” I laughed.
“Get what?” he pressed, furrowing his brow.
“You always tilt your head to one side when you’re curious, and so does your dad.” I giggled when he abruptly lifted his head again, pulling his eyebrows closer together.
“Hey wait, don’t change the subject. What did you mean by ‘what we’re doing’?” I scrunched up my nose involuntarily when he caught my shitty attempt at deflecting.
“I guess...I mean what is this, what are we? You’re my closest friend. That all changed when we kissed after that dance,” I managed to get out.
“I’d hoped that was a sign that our relationship always meant more to me,” Thor sighed, looking down the rainbow bridge.
“Really?”
“Yes. I’ve known you for ten years; I’ve opened up to you about things that I never thought I’d say out loud. I’ve been avoiding admitting how I feel about you for a long time,” Thor finished, glancing towards where Heimdall stood.
“Why?” I couldn’t stop the question from spewing from my mouth.
“I never wanted to put you in a position that you felt you had to choose between me and your home,” Thor whispered, glancing over at me. “I can’t stay on Earth forever. Asgard is my home; I have to come back. I would rather take on the pain instead of hurting you.”
“That’s why I never said anything. I know you can’t stay, and I would never ask you to stay. The last time you came to Earth, what was it for?” I looked over at him, watching his brows pull together again before his face softened.
“You,” he whispered, meeting my eyes. “I missed you so much it hurt. I needed to see you, talk to you. Things were getting worse here, and I needed you,” Thor confessed.
“Nat called it,” I snickered.
“What,” he chirped, lifting his head completely.
“I told her you came to Earth looking for something at the compound. She called bullshit, saying it was to see me,” I giggled. An adorable, yet guilty, smile spread across his face and he dropped his head again, hiding the pink dusting his cheeks.
“Couldn’t stay away, darling,” he chuckled.
“It’s out there now, so what do we do? Pretend it didn’t happen and go back to the way it was?” I asked, praying he said no.
“No, I can’t go back. I was half-joking when I said if a woman picked up my hammer, I’d make them my queen. When I saw you lift it, the power coursing through you, I knew it wasn’t a joke anymore. I knew at that moment that there was no more ignoring how I feel for you. I need you by my side.” Thor stopped walking, pulling on my arm, and forcing me to look at him, needing me to know he meant it.
“I’m not that impressive,” I scoffed, picking at my dress.
“You’re extraordinary. I wish you could’ve seen yourself through my eyes. You’re the most beautiful, powerful, desirable woman in the galaxy. You were born to be a queen, a powerful, mighty queen,” Thor gushed, grinning at me. I let his words sink in, my heart fluttering in my chest as I met his beautiful blue eyes and saw that he meant it; that when I realized how much I truly did love this man.
“You really want me to rule with you,” I questioned, blinking against the tears forming.
“More than anything, but I’d never ask you. I can’t make you choose; I’ll never make you choose,” Thor insisted. Looking into his eyes, I almost stumbled back at the overwhelming love and admiration shining back at me.
I took a second to think about if he did ask me and I couldn’t believe how easy the choice would be. “You’d rather rule alone than make me choose,” I guessed, shaking my head.
“Yes,” he said quickly.
“But I’m half Asgardian; I have to choose what I’m going to do. So technically, you aren’t asking me to choose,” I stated, keeping my eyes locked on his bright blue orbs.
“Yes, but I won’t be why you decide to leave Earth. I want you to make that decision for yourself,” Thor muttered, squeezing my arm lightly.
“Let’s get back to Earth but this conversation isn’t over,” I sighed. I couldn’t force my tired brain to argue right now.
“If you say so,” he huffed. Thor let his hand fall away and turned to start walking again; I grabbed his arm, pulling him to a stop this time.
“One more thing,” I whispered. I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him close enough that our lips brushed when I spoke again. “I am yours, all yours, only yours.” Thor whimpered softly as I sealed the promise with a kiss, his hands fisting into the shawl around my shoulders to pull me closer.
“Mine,” he growled against my mouth. Thor slotted our lips together again, desperate to have me closer and I melted against him; when my lungs burned with lack of oxygen, I broke the kiss, resting my forehead against his.
“Let’s go,” I panted, smiling. I pulled him towards Heimdall, ignoring his whining because the thought of my bed could’ve brought me to tears.
“Odinson. Lady (Y/N),” Heimdall greeted. “Avenger’s compound, I presume.”
“Yes, thank you,” Thor replied. “I will see you again, my friend.”
“I will see you again. It was a pleasure, Lady (Y/N).” Heimdall smiled at me before slamming his sword into its groove, cutting me off from saying goodbye. Thor grabbed my waist, and we were pulled into the tube of multicolored light; I closed my eyes, waiting for it to be over. We finally landed in the grass outside the tower, Thor holding me on my feet. Sunlight burned my eyes when I tried to open; after taking a moment to adjust, I noticed the outlines of Bucky and Steve jogging a few hundred feet away.
“How long were we gone?” I gasped, staring wide-eyed at Thor.
“Time moves differently on Asgard,” he warned.
“Hey! You guys are back,” Bucky yelled. He and Steve made their way over to us, Bucky glancing at my waist where Thor’s hand still rested.
“How long were we gone?” I yawned.
“About a day,” Steve replied with a shrug.
“Holy shit,” I breathed, shaking my head. “Fuck, I’m going to bed. You coming?” I looked up at Thor; he was yawning so big his eyes watered.
“Yes, I’m exhausted,” Thor managed around his yawn.
“Head up, I’ll be right behind you,” I ordered, smiling up at him. He started to walk away, yawning again, but he waved over his shoulder at Bucky and Steve.
“What the fuck happened with you two!” Bucky whispered excitedly.
“I’ll explain more after I sleep. Please leave us alone, or I’ll kill you slowly and painfully. Goodnight,” I snapped, following Thor. I found him in my room, stretching with a yell/yawn; I leaned against the door frame, laughing at the sound coming out of him.
“Sorry,” he said through another yawn.
“Hold on, I’m going to steal a pair of sweatpants from Steve or Bucky for you,” I laughed, pushing off the doorframe. Thor gave me a thumbs-up as he dropped onto my bed. I ran down the hall, pushing Bucky’s door open, finding him staring back at me.
“I thought you were going to bed?” Bucky snorted, raising an eyebrow.
“Sweatpants, give me,” I demanded, opening and closing my hand. He threw his head back, laughing before rummaging around in his dresser; he finally found a pair of clean sweatpants and threw them at me. “Thank you,” I yelled as I jogged back to my room. “Here.” I threw the sweats at Thor, quickly going to my dresser to changed into shorts and an oversized t-shirt before climbing into bed. I snuggled into the familiar warmth of my bed, smiling when I felt the mattress dip again.
“Get some sleep, little one,” he said, pulling me to his chest. I pressed a chaste kiss below his collar bone, sending a shiver through him.
“I wish I had the energy to admire your gorgeous body,” I whispered.
“Tomorrow, darling,” Thor breathed. His voice was already barely above a whisper and soon soft snores filled the space above my head. I snuggled into his chest and drifted off into a dreamless, dead sleep.
