There are two types of Zora: River (ex. Sidon) and Ocean (Tropical) (ex. Yona).
Tropical Zora
The Tropical Zora have their Domain near Lurelin Village. Their Domain is mostly underwater, and they are good friends with the Hylians in Lurelin. These Zora are better fitted to saltwater, and while they can survive in freshwater, staying in is long isn't healthy. Most of the Tropical Zora are based on saltwater and ocean animals, such as jellyfish, stingrays, and sea dragons. There are no saltwater sharks because the line of sharks went to the River Zora when Mipha and Sidon's mother, King Dorephan's wife, Marijn, married Dorephan.
(Fun fact: While I was looking at names for Dorephan's wife, Marijn, which comes from the word Marinus (meaning 'of the sea' or 'marine'), Marin is another one of those variants.)
River Zora
The River Zora have about half of their Domain on land (for non-Zoran visitors) and the other half in an underwater cave system. The Zora Ledo, who gives you the Luminous Stone Gathering quest, doesn't only use the stones for the pillars, but also for lighting underwater. Like the Tropical Zora, they are best fitted to freshwater, and while they can survive in freshwater, staying in it long isn't healthy. Most of the River Zora are based on freshwater animals.
Zoran Character Facts
King Dorephan is based on a whale, and there are rumors he is descended from the Ocean King, Oshu.
Late Queen Marijn is based on a Whale Shark. Queen Solca's sister.
Prince Sidon is based on a freshwater shark.
Princess Yona is based on a stringray, as is her father Muzu.
