there are few things in this world cuter than gladion’s midnight lycanroc patting ash’s rockruff on the head <333 ;;;;;;

i really like anime!gladion. quiet and serious, but a big ol’ softie at heart <3

so really, in attitude, he’s nothing like gary model of rival (so not gary 4.0 after all), and overall, he has a unique vibe for a rival. i like it.

(like, if he was going for the normal rival vibe, he could have easily made fun of ash for not knowing how to get a rock type z-move. instead, he was surprised, but gave ash clear instructions on how to get one.)

(also, he has an umbreon, which one can only get if you have high friendship, so it’s clear that he has a good bond with his pokemon; gary didn’t get an umbreon until after he got some Character Development in johto and stopped being a complete jerkass)

so gladion’s not quite starting at my queen zoey’s level of awesomeness, but he’s in a solid 2nd in the nice rivals column

As we learned this episode, Ash’s Rockruff is about to evolve. But as for into which form, we don’t know. (And I’ve been predicting a Rockruff evolution for a while now, back when episode 15 aired because I had thought it was Kukui’s and episode 27 since the promo image teased Lycanroc Midday.) But what interests me is the green glow in its eyes. While this might have something to do with Tapu Lele’s scales, I’ve heard that recently, Joe Merrick mentioned something about a blank PokeDex entry being discovered underneath Lycanroc’s entries, so might we be seeing a new form that’ll make its debut as a USUM teaser?

Also, of note, Gladion’s making his return, but this time with his signature Type: Null. :D

Episode 36, second preview. Comes down to Continental Crush vs. Bloom Doom, apparently. (Still leaning towards an Olivia victory, if only because it seems a bit too early for her yet. That said, it was a pretty quick jump from Gumshoos to Hala, and I’m pretty sure I predicted a loss there too only to be proven wrong.)
