Many many happy returns of the day to the living legend #ashabhosale Ji..! Ashaji sang more than 200 songs under the baton of #ShankarJaikishan, in variety of genres including Indian classical, mujra/dance songs, western, folk, soft romantic, cabarets etc. Many of them have turned out to be her landmark songs giving her fame, recognition and popularity in her initial career. Today, I would like to share this extraordinary combination of SJ and Asha Bhosle, in a wonderful musical song “Na main hoon main” from #Umang (1970), written by Anjaan. It’s a piece of mastery by Shankar Jaikishan, with an excellent blend of western classical and Indian melody. The song starts with a minute long fantastic prelude, suggesting a dream sequence. The composition is so dulcet, dreamy and melodious, that it just intoxicates our minds. As per the song’s situation, SJ created a marvelous ballet music in its both interludes. The moment Asha completes the mukhda at “Main teri tu meri aarzoo....”, the rhythm immediately changes to waltz, even before the last “zoo” gets finished, and goes back to previous rhythm just before the stanzas. What a magic...! Both the interludes have extraordinary melodies and waltz themes, on group violins and chorus, and the postlude have a concluding waltz section. Ashaji has sung the song perfectly doing all the justice to the composition through her silky voice texture and brilliant voice modulations. The picturization (Archana, Satish Kumar) too is unique, especially the slow motion scenes on an imaginary moon, in the later part of the song. Enjoy this work of brilliance..! https://youtu.be/-T_lRZfkIFU https://www.instagram.com/p/CTjzcXjB5hn/?utm_medium=tumblr
