Hi! How are you doing? i was wondering if you could help me with something, you see, im a high school student and my year is divided in trimesters, so i just finished one (and broke my ass studying for everything) and this one is starting and we've got winter break in 2 weeks(im from argentina). so the thing is that all the teachers are cramming content and setting millions of tests this 2 weeks and tbh im kinda breaking down cause im so tired so basically do u have any advice on(1)
(2) studying and retaining knowledge and just plain on functioning when your brain just doesn't really work anymore? cause its sooo frustrating not being able to understand or retain subjets u like and feeling super dumb cause u have to ask to ppl for their notes cause your brain didnt work and you couldn't copy the blackboard and stuff
Oh god, I hope I’m not too late for this because I’ve been meaning to get to it for a while but my brain just wouldn’t focus. Ok, ok, here it goes:
First of all I’ve made a post on basic college survival which should come helpful, I hope. And one on studying habits and tips that helped me survive through my whole academic career.
More specifically, though, for multiple subjects and confusing mixing information, here are the tips I can give:
Color-code each subject while studying. Like, highlight all of one subject in blue, one in green, one in orange, one pink, one yellow. Try to give each subject a color you relate to it. (I stick with green for science, for example, and blue for spanish, etc.)
Space your studying time for a week before the tests exam, so that you don’t have tones to do right before them (but don’t over do yourself or you may get too tense and panic when the time comes).
The day before each test, study only for that test. Especially, go through names and dates specific for that test the night before and right before the test time. Learning and understanding concepts is simpler, since you retain the info once it becomes knowledge... but things you need to remember precisely are most likely to get mixed up.
If you have two or more tests the same day, here it goes:
Give each subject a day way before hand so that you have actual time to go through all the themes particularly without hurry
The day before, give each a light re-read to freshen your memory.
Before each particular test, re-read your resumen, especially the parts you have a harder time remembering.
Other students in your grade are probably in the same situation as you (bombarded by tests left and right) so take your chance to do study groups. It may seem distracting, but if you all focus on answering each others’s doubts and quizzing each other, it’ll give you the support you need.
I hope this helps. I really do. And again, sorry for taking so long to reply. Making this public so that others may hopefully find this helpful too.
Buena suerte.
