     “ --- but the best thing about them is the atmosphere, you know? Wherever the characters in a Ghibli film are, the water or the trees are moving, and it’s all living and breathing. It’s not all pretty, I mean, I’ve seen Princess Mononoke probably twelve times, a lot of limbs get severed in that and there are giant wolves on the attack. But there’s this sense of, like, a peace that’s going to last beyond humanity. And that we can settle into it if we stop fighting for awhile and listen.

     “So that’s why we need to have a marathon, whenever you get to visit me.”

          “  look.  “  it’s hard to tell if arlo is talking to himself or to lana as he stares into the mirror.  there’s a little sweat on his brow,  hair messed from rubbing his face in the towel.  “  i can see muscle on my arms now.  “  at least that’s what he had been told by dad,  encouraged to be strong and to run with him.  (  he had trouble keeping up running.  but it helped him focus on the now,  and that was a good thing.  )
