“Pick a flower Dad!” Moments before those had been my instructions to him as I crouched and hopped and chased my way around the yard in a dubious attempt to wrangle light and 3 year old and focus. These are the magical moments now. All the adventures I could ever conceive of could not even start to thrill me like this. I have no idea what God has designed for this one that is mine to teach and shield and nudge this way and that for a little while. Perhaps he will follow closely in my wild footsteps or perhaps not at all. I know that I will love him always, this boy, who will all to quickly be a man all his own. This moment he will certainly forget. But I won’t. And one day when he is making his mark and he is tall and strong and capable and has little need of anything I could still offer him a much older me will find this moment and a thousand more like it in the dusty archive of my mind and I will certainly smile. #AsherAndDad (at Crieve Hall, Nashville, Tennessee)
