Asher B Durand’s most famous painting, #kindredspirits in the #atlanticcrossing show @metmuseum (I was a little worried I might have been blackballed after the @nytimes article - but they still let me in!) The show focuses on #thomascole who founded the #hudsonriverschool of painting, and Durand was an engraver turned painter and arrived early in the movement. I grew up in NJ, next to Durand’s home, so it’s somewhat ironic that nearly all of my work to date has focused on topographics and the landscape. Notice the broken trees and branches in this work... #asherbdurand @durandhedden (at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York)
A shout out to @kchayka and @verge for this well researched deep dive into the work.
