1 - Are you named after anyone? - Not a person, exactly. I named myself for the ashes of the life I left behind. Poetic, I guess

2 - When was the last time you cried? - I suppose I shed a tear at the memorial for Alya, but I don't cry most of the time.

3 - Do you have kids? - No, probably on account of the fact that I am 17 years old and have absolutely no interest and a faint loathing for the kind of physical activity required for children [a/n - they're ace]

4 - Do you use sarcasm? - All the time, especially around Cassius. It drives him mad.

5 - What's the first thing that you notice about someone? - The things that they might know.

6 - What's your eye colour? - I have solid black eyes, and no matter what form I take, they are the one thing that never change.

7 - Scary movies or happy endings? - Scary movies all the way.

8 - Any special talents? - Does shapeshifting count? I was born with it, but I think it's pretty special

9 - Where were you born? - Well, don't tell any of the council, but I was born in Emberhollow, the remote mining town miles from Blackburn

10 - What are your hobbies? - I don['t really do much outside of my job, but I do do a lot of reading, if that counts for anything?

11 - Have you any pets? - No.

12 - What sports do you play/have played? - Back in Emberhollow, I could throw a javelin further than anyone else

13 - How tall are you? - Well, I can shapeshift into any height, but my natural form is 6" 3'

14 - Favourite subject in school? - I didn't go to traditional school, but I had a tutor who taught me the art of storytelling, which I think counts

15 - Dream job? - Working in a bookshop or a library

The Remnants of Shadows re-intro!

I had a burst of motivation to start working on this again, so here's a new and updated intro!

When beloved Alya Maxwell, renowned pillar of the small community of Blackburn, disappears with only shadows swarming around her house to give any idea of her fate, no one really seems to care, giving up on her as a lost cause. But two teenagers, all with their separate reasons for trusting her, don’t accept this, and they begin to dig into what really happened. But when old, buried secrets begin to emerge, how far will any of them go for the truth?

Summary:

Alya Maxwell disappears from her home in the small community of Blackburn, and, despite how sad people are about it, no one seems to be doing anything to actively try and find her, all intimidated by the shadows swarming around her house.

So, taking matters into their own hands, four teenagers, all with their own connections to Alya, begin to dig into the event, and all signs lead to one person - Kiera Alexanderson, a local legend, a girl who ran away from her home, leaving behind only shadows.

The story follows these four as they try to discover what really happened to Alya, and what Kiera might have to do with any of this.

Characters:

The main ones

Cassius Alexanderson - Kiera's grieving, clairvoyant brother, who insists he knows nothing about her disappearance, but is hiding much more behind his perfect publicity smile

Ashes Walsh - A shapeshifter who just wants all of this to go away, but cares too deeply about the people they love (far under their tough exterior) to just leave Alya to her fate.

The ones everyone wants to know about:

Kiera Alexanderson - Cassius's older sibling, an umbramancer who infamously disappeared from her home five years before the story takes place. For most, she's little more than an interesting story to tell on a dark night, but for the Alexanderson family, she left more than shadows behind her.

Alya Maxwell - A pillar of Blackburn, who ran a home for young people who were struggling, and the one thing uniting Cassius and Ashes. Her house was found empty with nothing but shadows swarming the building to give anyone any idea where she is.
