It was hard, driving up to the familiar garage. Sophie hadn’t been there in ages, and she wasn’t sure that it was the smartest idea to be returning, but she needed to. Not for herself, she knew that she destroyed whatever was between her and Clyde the moment she left, but her son. He needed to know his father, and Clyde needed to know about him. It had been selfish, she realized, not to let him know.
Sure, she left a note explaining why she was afraid to stay, but she didn’t know if he got it. She thought maybe he’d try to call her if he found it, but it had been radio silence. It was something she deserved, but it still hurt.
Steadying herself she got out of her truck, moving towards the back to get Devon out of his car seat, promising him if he was good they could get ice cream after before heading towards the garage, her heart pounding, fighting the urge to turn around.
“You here?”
