watched today’s weird kids and ashley saying “there’s this like, take that people have [...] where they think like, the ultimate adaptation of something is a movie.” and taliesin adding “some things shouldn’t be movies.”,,, yeah. this is only one of the many reasons I think adapting the odyssey into a movie will most likely let us down every time especially if it’s in christopher nolan’s wholly incapable hands. and I think adapting the odyssey into a movie should let us down every time! the ultimate adaptation of something is not always (or even often) a movie! some things shouldn’t be movies! the odyssey is theater! it’s poetry! it’s narration! it’s oration! it does not need matt damon and anne hathaway and robert pattinson and the only halfway decent role for elliot page christopher nolan has ever devised and millions of hollywood dollars none of which have yet gone to paying to repair the damage done to the replica viking ship and a dreary vision and dingy costuming! jorge rivera-herrans was able to build this in a cave! with a box of scraps!*

*obviously rivera-herrans has equipment and an extremely talented cast/team and not but the point I’m making is that while not being a well-respected hollywood director who can make essentially whatever he wants with millions of dollars at his disposal none of which have yet gone to paying to repair the damage done to the replica viking ship but while being a young adult (and brilliant musician, lyricist, and vocalist) working on his senior thesis rivera-herrans created the current best adaptation of the odyssey from fucking scratch!!!
