“What do you even see in that man?” Thimble asks, arms to the heavens in exasperation. “I mean, he’s Julien!” If she were a bit bigger, Occtis would elbow her. As it is, he just rolls his eyes again, and takes enough air into his lungs to quickly blow it in her face, messing up her hair. “You know the answer to that,” he replies. “Sure, he’s pretty, but that’s not enough to marry him!” Occtis rolls his eyes again. They’ve had this conversation at least twice before, and the answers haven’t changed in any meaningful way. Thimble just likes to needle, he knows this.

Followed by Occtis kneeling down (beside him?) to start carefully cleaning and preparing cyd & teor so gently, because that is what he knows to do. This, he has done hundreds of times over. He knows how to care for the dead with the utmost respect.

It's the least he can do, after his family was the cause for cyd & teor's deaths -

Julien's horror and realization and the dissociation immediately upon Thimble gifting him his family's sword, realizing that it *was* true - that vision he got from the shadow. But knowing that his father can now rest at piece thanks to Thimble.

It's strange and it hurts.

Also still loving that Team Theater is still reeling from their high & crashing down hard upon realizing that juat because everything went great for THEM doesn't mean that everything went great for everyone. Murray stumbling over her words & her shock, the silence from Thaisha & Vaelus & Hal & Azune in this moment.

Immediately sobering experience.

& then following with Maya -

The minute reactions from everyone, Mara's humor, Azune's [ Luis ] immediately widening upon bringing back the memories of Thjazi's execution, the horror and the dissociation to where he hides his face.

To Occtis piecing everything together quickly because of *course* Thjazi would do that. His family is smart, but Thjazi was smarter. Right?

Bolaire's ANGER at this, at everything that has happened because of Thjazi.

& Julien's little, he was a gambler.

WIP Wednesday

Yes I know I don't do this every week, don't worry about it.

This week's WIP excerpt is from Hold Me Closer (working title that I think might be just the actual title) a fic that's basically various times Occtis has seen/given/experienced physical affection. Enjoy.

There’s no such thing as a quiet night at the Penteveral, especially during the week leading up to the first day of spring, when all of the students have a break from their studies. All over campus, students are celebrating with dancing and drink, the quad lit up with the dancing glow of hundreds of motes of wizard light.

Occtis sighs in mild annoyance and walks over to the open window, cutting off the laughter and shouts by closing it and completing the glyph for silence that he’s etched into the wood, the focus of the spell turned outward to block any sounds from outside. He’s coming to the end of a month’s worth of delicate work, and he needs to concentrate.

Five years ago, Occtis had stood at this very same window, having been dropped off at the school mere days before, and had spent what had felt like hours trying to work up the courage to go down and join in the fun. Yes, most of the students had been years older than him, but there had been a group around Occtis’ own age off to the side laughing and creating their own little light shows to amuse each other with. One of the students, a gnomish boy with a swirl of white and blue hair, had even created a whole dragon with glittering gold and silver scales. Occtis had imagined himself going down to the quad and introducing himself and asking just how the boy had done that. He’d even gotten all the way to the bottom of the stairs and opened the door leading outside before the noise and the lights (louder and brighter than from his window) and the fact that he didn’t know how to make friends (he still wasn’t sure how he had managed with Thimble. It must have been some magic on her part) had sent him back up to his room, shaking and breathless.

By the time classes had started again, Occtis’ reputation had already been firmly in place. The rich kid who had bought his way into the school, who spent all his free time in his room and didn’t talk to anyone unless he had to, his shyness mistaken for snobbery.

In regards to saying things to occtis to the first time, in the flashback where they meet thimble apologizes to him, after saying hes powerless its sad and I wonder if that was the first apology he ever got

ugh god i do love that moment but that never occurred to me (probably because i thought she was more saying that to thjazi but i think you're right)

regardless, i think that day was a lot of firsts for our boy. a lot of good firsts
