The employee severed a fingertip in August while cleaning equipment, according to a federal investigation.
ASHWAUBENON — A Wisconsin cleaning products manufacturer faces a more than $194,000 fine after an employee's fingertip was amputated last year, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Labor. The department cited Tufco LP, 3161 S. Ridge Road, for exposing workers to similar machine hazards in 2019 and 2022, the release states. An employee was part of an overnight crew that was running and maintaining melt tanks used to create scented laundry beads on Aug. 17, when the worker severed a fingertip while cleaning a pump's outfeed, the agency said. A federal investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration found the company "violated federal regulations for the control of hazardous energy during service and maintenance tasks and failed to report the amputation injury, as required," according to the department.
