An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
In honor of Femslash February, the binder is recommending our favorite femslash fics. Today’s fic is centered around Noora/Eva. If you like it, please consider leaving it some love in the form of kudos and comments!
Falling Faster and Faster - Stria (Asia117) / @nooradeservedbetter (13k words)
“I’m a fucking creep and it’s not right that a creep like me stays close to two people like you. I can’t, not till I manage to reign in the fucking creepiness I have inside myself.” She says it all in the span of a breath, and after that she’s panting a bit, and she can feel actual tears on her cheek. “I’m a creep,” she repeats, and then breaks into sobs.
[Or, Vilde starts dreaming about Noora and Eva. She can't think straight, she's so gay, and all that jazz.]
Notes & Ramblings:
This is a threesome of Vilde/Eva/Noora, but is the story of a developing relationship, not just pwp. (Although there’s plenty of smut, too!)
Reading this story felt like the Vilde coming out arc I had always hoped for in canon, and the process she goes through as she slowly comes to terms with her sexuality felt very true to her character.
An important part of this story is Vilde’s erotic dreams, which are explicit and incredibly sensual. The dream sequences are integral to her sexual awakening and woven skillfully into the narrative. It was refreshing to read a coming out fic that was so explicitly sexual, since that aspect is sometimes glossed over.
Chris B. as Vilde’s oldest friend provides a steady, comforting presence throughout. Here, Chris is an aspiring opera singer and her pieces often offer additional perspective on Vilde’s story.
Although quite a lot of this fic is understandably angsty as Vilde is forced to confront her own internalized homophobia and self-disgust, towards the end it feels very hopeful and full of joy.
This story is a beautifully written celebration of women loving women, with tons of sapphic appeal and good feelings.
Note: This fic is rated E
Favorite Lines:
Eva is silent for a moment. “What are girls supposed to do, then?” she asks, and she’s careful again.
Vilde does not want to have this conversation, she really doesn’t. She shrugs. “You know, dress nicely, behave, be good.” Find a boy to be with and not be creepy towards their friends.
“As opposed to?” Vilde can tell Eva wants an explanation for what she said at the park, but she can’t give her that, she can’t make Eva and Noora hate her, she can just pretend it’s nothing and go on with her life.
“As opposed to swearing, and not dressing up, not caring for yourself.” She waves her hands uselessly, and prays that Eva doesn’t ask her anymore questions.
Eva doesn’t.
