Media Tasting at Kai Duck
It may be challenging to find good and affordable Cantonese-style Peking duck in Singapore. Kai Duck, by Kai Garden, serves a reviving interpretation of dishes made from the eponymous Cantonese-style Peking duck and dim sum at affordable prices. Walk into Kai Duck is like walking into a new Cantonese casual 60s cha chaan teng restaurant dressed in colonial Hong Kong at Ngee Ann City. Kai Duck is helmed by Group Executive Chef Fung Chi Keung, the same person behind Kai Garden. Chef Fung not only oversees the menu and kitchens of both Kai Duck and Kai Garden, he has over 30 years of experience as a chef in Hong Kong and Singapore.
These stacked layers of crackers, vegetables, sliced peking duck skin in homemade sauce. A different layer of crunch found in this dish! Thin and crispy skin was so good that you feel like having another piece. I also love the little burnt on my peking duck skin. Pssst, the cracker and sauce are handmade from scratch!
Sliced Peking Duck with Crackers at S$4.80 per piece.
Shattering thin peking duck skin with light cream cheese and crispy mantou. If you’re wondering, both mantou and cream cheese are made in-house.
Crispy Bun with Sliced Peking Duck at S$9.80.
I would like to give a big thumbs up to this creation! Peking duck skin is served with succulent peking meat, crunchy cucumber and lettuce topped with Japanese sesame sauce and seaweed flakes, all wrapped in a crispy spring roll wrapper. These handrolls are placed onto test tube alike holder that reminds us of the days where we had science lessons!
Peking Duck Salad Hand Roll at S$4.80 / piece.
The Japanese cherry tomatoes may look normal but it tasted extraordinary! The tomatoes are marinated with plum sauce and served with handmade appetising plum jelly and Japanese sesame sauce.
Chilled Mini Tomatoes topped with Japanese Sesame Sauce at S$10.80.
Made from real shredded yam and comes with natural sweetness from the pumpkin!
Deep-fried Yam and Pumpkin at S$6.80 (3 pieces).
Chef Fung also paid special attention to the classic dishes like steamed prawn dumplings! The prawn fillings are crunchy and QQ.
Steamed Prawn Dumplings at S$6.80 (4 pieces).
Another extraordinary dish – Steamed xiao long bao served on a wooden boat instead of the usual round basket. Recommended to eat immediately to saveur at its best! A perfect single bite xiao long bao with tender minced meat soaked in flavourful soup.
Steamed Xiao Long Bao at S$6.80 (4 pieces).
The baked coconut bun wasn’t too sweet and bread was soft.
Baked Coconut Bun at S$7.80 (3 pieces).
And yes! Let’s eat our siew mai with our stick instead of chopstick! Well-marinated meat stuffed in wanton skin and topped with sweet teriyaki sauce. This siew mai was huge, it took me 2-3 bites.
Pan-fried “Siew Mai” with Teriyaki Sauce at S$8.80 (4 pieces).
The carrot cake pizza, I call it! Filled with lots of turnip, pan fried to maximum crisp on the outer yet soft inside.
Pan-fried Carrot Cake at S$13.80.
No excuse to escape from the carbs! A deep musky aroma and you knew truffles were coming.
Vegan are welcome as this dish is vegetarian friendly. Prepared using beetroot fried rice, black truffle oil, crunchy rice crackers, mushrooms, corn, and pumpkin. Although it doesn’t contain any eggs, it’s very fragrance with the various ingredients. Most importantly, it’s healthier!
Signature Fried Rice with Black Truffle Mushroom and Beetroot at S$16.80 per serving.
Kai Duck is recommended for any peking duck and dim sum fans without burning a hole in your wallet. What’s even better? It’s located at a convenient location, Ngee Ann City. Unique creative dishes where you can have it only at Kai Duck. I will definitely be back again! Recommended gathering with family or friends!

Media Event at Artbox Singapore
The pop-up market, Artbox Bangkok is a hipster paradise. Booths that are housed in goliath metal shipping compartments which has moved to Singapore. Artbox Singapore that is slightly different from our local pasar malam. There are more than 300 international creative entrepreneurs across wide product categories including handcrafted bags, air hammocks and original wares on each weekend. Expect to see visual crowd-pullers including shipping containers and fairy lights display. It is expected turnout of 400,000 people. And a total event space of over 500,000 square feet during these two weekends (14-16 April and 21-23 April). Artbox Singapore with DBS as the title sponsor, conveying the notorious occasion to Marina Bay interestingly. Good news! Free entry to the public.
I was carrying much anticipation to this great event. Overwhelming crowd at Artbox Singapore even before the start of event. FYI I ‘ve reached at 2.45pm. Don’t hope for a car park space. Go for the alternative parking which I have listed below. Moreover Singapore wet weather is not supportive, it’s hard to mingle among the human traffic as well as the umbrella fight. And truthfully, I got lost from the media group halfway through the tour. So, hold tight to your friends or loved ones alright! Food queue started as early at 3pm, NEVER visit Artbox Singapore on an empty stomach. Don’t put your hopes at Marina Bay Sands (MBS) as well, everywhere is crowded. Ate nothing, bought nothing and left with a heavy heart; all wet and drenched.
Artbox Singapore at 3pm on 14th April 2017. With all the “umbrella displays”, I can’t even take any decent photo.
Artbox Singapore at night on 14th April 2017. Photo courtesy from my dear friend, Shee Rui who went at night. If you are curious how a fairy lights display looks like. The crowd is as bad as stucked in a fully packed train during peak hours.
Things curated from different social ventures upheld by the DBS Foundation. These social ventures have booths at Artbox as well. Show your support to the social ventures if it is within your means.
Extra perks from title sponsor, DBS Bank:
First 50 tertiary students (universities and polytechnics) per day to flash their student passes and DBS/POSB cards at the DBS Live Fresh zone will get a special Artbox Singapore tote bag.
All DBS/POSB cardmembers have access to the DBS Live Fresh zone – a super chill zone to hang out with your friends amidst the hustle and bustle.
DBS is also running a Facebook contest to give out Artbox goodie bags with over S$30 worth of items in each bag.

http://ift.tt/2fZSdzV Read on our visit to Perbacco Italian Restaurant | Italian Taste That Is Worth Lingering For by FoodGem
Perbacco is one of the spacious Italian Restaurants in Craig Road. With classic wooden wine case covers as a divider to the prevailing modern and elegant theme topic of this Italian restaurant. Perbacco Italian restaurant is lead by Chef Marco Fregnan from Northen Italy who have spent many years working in the Veneto region of Italy before coming to Singapore. At Perbacco, you can discover Northern Italian food from the Veneto district with an extensive variety of moderate Italian wines. Something unique about Perbacco Italian restaurant is that they have an Enomatic machine keeping the wine fresh by extending its shell life from 3 days to 3 weeks. This enables the Italian restaurant to offer premium wines such as Jermann, Cesari Amarone by the glass at irresistible prices.
Soft and crispy bread served as appetiser.
It is always delightful to find a new flavour pasta that I’ve never tried before. Bucatini pasta with anchovies in Veneziana Style with Taggiasca olives and garlic chips. Pasta is chewy, towards Italian style, dressed in anchovies, neither fishy nor overly salty, more on umami taste. Lastly, complete it with very tasty Taggiasca olives. It’s pleasant to know that all pastas are home made except spaghetti.
Bucatini in Salsa alla Veneziana – Full portion S$26* and half portion S$15*.
Carbonara is something that I would avoid in Italian restaurant. I dislike the overly creamy and sick taste. It caught my attention that Perbacco served authentic Italian carbonara that is not overly creamy and more towards egg yolk cream sauce. The linguine tasted so flavourful, smooth and moist with egg yolk cream sauce alongside generous pieces of lobster meat bites. I really love this egg yolk sauce so much! :p
Linguine alla Carbonara di Astice – Full portion S$26* and half portion S$17*.
Stewed Veal Ossobuco in Gremolada Style with mash potato. Delicate veal is wonderfully tender and subtle, stewed with nutritious bone marrow sauce and house special red wine sauce.
Ossobuco di Vitello in “Gremolada” S$36*.
Enhance your meal with quality wine. Restaurant owner focuses on quality and serve premium wines such as Jermann (White Wine), Cesari Amarone (Red Wine) under house pour. That’s a steal as it’s rare to order quality wine as house pour by glass.
Sweet crepe served with rich and creamy chocolate and hint of orange taste, accompanied with pistacho ice cream.
Crespella al Cioccolato, e Arancia con Gelato Al Pistacchio S$14*
Little stiff and creamy pannacotta with tasty caramelized hazelnut.
Pannacotta alle Nocciole Caramellate S$12*
Perbacco Italian Restaurant Menu.
Perbacco Italian Restaurant affordable lunch menu from S$16.90*.
Perbacco shop frontage.
There is a new pizza menu to look out for at Perbacco. Chef Marco Fregnan will recreate 5 types of unique pizza that you can’t get from other pizza joints. Currently, White Truffle Degustation is popular at Perbacco. Featuring dishes Seared Angus Beef Tenderloin with White Truffle And Truffle Emulsion, Crespella al Taleggio Piemontese, Nocciole e Tartufo Bianco (Crepe Stuffed with Piedmont Taleggio Cheese, hazelnuts and Fresh White Truffle. Don’t miss out!
