(Sleepover Saturday...I realize it's not Saturday but) rant about anything you want!

Anything I want, you say? >:3 Then it’s unpopular opinion time: Grace would be a much better parent to Hazel than Amelia. I’m not trying to say Grace is perfect; she absolutely messed up massively by trying to maintain both Hazel’s trust and her relationship with Simon, and she needs to own up to that; it’s her fault that Hazel had to make her choice at all. But she does genuinely care, a lot, whereas Amelia literally does not believe Hazel is a person. IMO, the best case scenario for Hazel right now is that Amelia takes her to where all the quarantined cars are and just straight-up abandons her - Amelia had no qualms about ejecting other failed clones of Alrick (such as the turtle king) - the worst is she becomes a test subject for experimentation. I don’t see Amelia suddenly deciding to become a mother-figure or even really caring about her beyond scientific curiosity.

I loved your recent comic with the dance competition! It was very entertaining, and I think it's a good set of head canons for the AU! 🤍 I would love to see the rest of the head canons you have for the comic. ✨

hell yeah thank you so much!! definitley aiming to match the vibes of a tangled episode with this comic so i had alot of fun mimicking that as well as figuring out how the gang would interact with eachother. Part two wont come out for a while since i got really busy with school all of a sudden but its coming for sure! <3

Tangled and/or Steven Universe! (for the "Message me a fandom and I will answer the questions")

Steven Universe:

1. The first character I fell in love with: Uhhhh, I’m not actually sure.  I mean I think I found the show via Garnet.

2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Peridot?

3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t: Idk who’s popular with the fandom.

4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Okay, the fandom doesn’t hate him anymore, but LARS!  Yes, I liked him before he was pink.

5. The character I used to love but don’t any longer: Ummm, can’t think of anyone.

6. The character I would totally smooch: Nobody in particular jumps to mind but like, kissing is fun I’d be down to kiss lots of them.

7. The character I’d want to be like: Ummm... maybe Jenny or Sadie.  They seem pretty cool?

8. The character I’d slap: Kevin.

9. A pairing that I love: Bispearl.

10. A pairing that I despise: I don’t really think I despise any well known ships.  I guess I tend to feel kinda weird about ships involving Greg that aren’t GregRose.

Tangled the Series:

1. The first character I fell in love with: Varian! 

2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Andrew, definitely.  XD

3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t: No one is coming to mind tbh.

4. The character I love that everyone else hates: ANDREW AGAIN.  I swear the fandom hates him and only uses him as a source of angst and violence and it drives me nuts cause he gets the characterization of a cardboard cutout with a knife in most fancontent.

5. The character I used to love but don’t any longer: I don’t think there’s a character that fell so far from my graces?  I mean I really hate how S3 handled Cass, but I still like her character, just... not that.

6. The character I would totally smooch: *starts pointing at a bunch of characters*  Raps, Cass, Eugene, Hector, Adira, my design of ZT

7. The character I’d want to be like: Hmmmm, I feel like there’s traits I want from multiple characters tbh, not just one in particular.

8. The character I’d slap: Frederic.

9. A pairing that I love: Hector/Adira!  One of the few TTS ships I’ve worked on fic focused on.

10. A pairing that I despise: Despise is a strong word and tbh idk if there’s any ships I feel that strongly against in the TTS fandom?

Honestly this is all making me reconsider how I wrote Players and Pieces, and I suddenly feel very foolish. I think, based on the shady things in the notes given, people jumped to a villain archetype. It doesn’t help that all the angsty Varigo art hinges on Donella being evil. 

 But the bit about having Varian and Hugo’s relationship mend the one between Ulla and Donella always stuck out to me. I couldn’t reconcile that note with the fandom’s characterization of her.

Don't get me wrong, I love all the Varigo art I've seen If it's all the same to everyone here, I'll definitely be reconsidering how I approach Donella when I eventually write my 7K AU long fic.

Also, I head canon that Hugo's goggles are from Donella. They match her aesthetic a bit better, with the spikes and all.

no need to feel foolish!! i’ve def had characters where i went with an initial impression that i ended up feeling was wrong later—and with something like v7k where the extent of the “canonical” material is a few pages of notes and some concept art, everything’s especially vague and up to fan interpretation which allows fanon to spread and become widely accepted much faster than it might with a completed story, you know? 

(also, i’m coming at this as somebody who wasn’t especially interested in v7k until i saw concept art of donella and went ooh! who is that! which as you can imagine predisposed me toward a more sympathetic reading of her. :P) 

wrt to the varigo angst, i think there’s plenty of room to have both a sympathetic/not-evil reading of donella and a very traumatized hugo because he a) was an orphan before she took him in, b) in a society with a rigid and highly inequal class system. add to this an adoptive mother who... is clearly fine with dabbling in shady borderline criminal activity and who (imo) likely has some lingering trust issues or cynicism from what went down between her and ulla when their friendship and working partnership fractured, and you have a recipe for a hot mess of childhood issues and angst to work through without any need for donella to have been abusive or even particularly unkind to him. 

like: what happened to make him an orphan? how long was he fending for himself as a child before donella found him and took him in? how much did her personal issues splash onto him over the course of her raising him—eg, did he grow up cynical and callous in part because of donella being that way? how young was he when he began to get into his “sneakier services” and how much trouble did that get him into over the years? has he been imprisoned? has he had to live as a fugitive? iirc kait mentioned donella and her crew offering hugo protection—what kinds of things might they have been protecting him from?

etc. lot of different directions you could take it! 

personally the dynamic i imagine between her and hugo is like. Grumpy Cynical Alchemist and her Chaotic Bastard Son, currently going through a rough transition from parent-child to parent-of-adult-child, with added complications from varian trying to find the eternal library probably bringing up... some stuff, for donella. bad memories of how things ended with ulla and all that.

Hello! You may have noticed me liking a bunch of your Oscar/Ozpin posts. I saw mentioning that there are number of fics that have Oz kind of (I think) manipulate their aura to mimic the pressure of a hug and that’s wholesome as ALL heck. Invisible hugs? I need that in my life. I was wondering you could pass on the names of some of them (or all of them)?

had to reach out to the discord i’m in cause past-me was a heathen who didn’t make enough bookmarks when strolling through Oscar&Oz fics, but we found two! Salem Comfort and Deafening Silence both by TheAngelofFate. Though I could have sworn I’d read another where Oscar was talking to Oz on an Argus street??? If I find it, I’ll come back to this post.

YOOOO your Wolf in Sheep's Clothing animatic was so on point! It had all kinds of energy--it both made me really excited and also laugh. Like I kind of wish canon played out a little more like that? I don't think we've ever seen Varian interact directly with Frederic and that is a damn shame. /// I've always thought that song worked well for Varian, both FROM him as you illustrated, but also about him as he convinces himself he's right. /// God the "who am I kidding bit" was soon good.

Thank you very much!! And Varian did interact with Frederic a little, when he  called him “Dad” sarcastically when he and Rapunzel came to Varian’s place before falling into his trap. I’m happy I’m not the only one who found that song fitting, and that we got the same interpretation  (＾▽＾)
