I loved your breakdown on Tom Nook and Redd's past and how their may be a deeper inequality hidden in the seams of the game but I'm kind of confused about how you said they're mythological animals? Tanuki and Kitsune are real animals and while they do have a place in Japanese legend they aren't singled out more than any other animal?

Oh! I know they are actual animals, haha. It's just the amount of folklore attached to them which differentiates them. Particularly, negative and malicious bits of those animals being known tricksters or even dangerous. So I said "mythical" to distinguish that line between the other animals who might hold prejudice against them.

Nook and Redd could just be regular animals but with extra stigma unfairly drapped over them because the world believes in those baseless myths. Or they could have mystical powers of sorts after all, and are stigmatized for it alone rather than judged on their character. I've seen theories say Redd probably uses kitsune magic to create his art, and Tom Nook transforms furniture items into leaves for easy carrying.
