When asking for rune readings, is there any specific rules/things to keep in mind?
Honestly, I’m not too sure how/if rune reading via ask box is going to work, but there’s only one way to find out! So I’ll explain a bit about how runes function generally, how I usually do things when reading for others and how I can see this possibly working.
Runestones, based on the Norse Elder Futhark, can give us insight into the future and help us to reflect upon the past. There is no blanket belief as to where this knowledge comes from, as runes are currently used by people of many different belief systems. I sometimes use the term ‘the Oracle’ to refer to this bank of knowledge, as it is a term that was used in my first rune book, although these days I more feel that I have a team of deities around me with different specialities which I’m still becoming familiar with I use runes because I felt drawn to them in a way that I never did with tarot cards, despite growing up around them. I often ask the runes yes/no questions when I’m feeling indecisive (which is a lot… panromantic Librans shouldn’t have to make decisions) but only do a full reading when there’s something particularly important or worrying happening.
So far, I have only read for people I know very well. I have sat with them in person or on Hangouts, or sat with objects that I associate with them. Sometimes, I’ve just thought about them as I draw the runes. They have not always specified the topic they would like guidance on, instead focusing on thinking about it while I draw the runes. I need to be able to let my deities know who I’m asking about, and I’m pretty sure that ‘the person who wrote this anonymous message’ is a bit beyond them so the anon function may not be the best for rune requests unless you want to give me some details to go on. I’m willing to try!
As for things that you can ask the runes about, there’s not really any no-go areas. Obviously, it’s always wise to keep an open mind where insights into the future are possible – self-fulfiling prophecies are a thing, after all – but the Oracle is pretty good at keeping certain things to themselves when it is warranted. It’s good to keep questions quite open, for example, ‘what do I need to know about this new job opportunity’ would be better than ‘should I accept this new job’. There’s no guarantee that they will want to talk about the issue you have chosen, sometimes they decide there’s something more pressing you should know!
TL;DR If you’d like a rune reading, I’d suggest dming me rather than going in the ask box and we’ll have a chat and find the best way to proceed. If you really want to go on anon, try giving me a little context on the situation and I’ll see if I get anything!
