May I ask what your falconry plans are for this season? I’m excited to see what you choose to do!!
On one hand, I’m so glad you asked this, but on the other it makes me so sad!!! I’m afraid I’m going to disappoint a lot of folks with this. So, unfortunately I have no falconry plans for this season. :( I’ve been thinking for a while on how I wanted to address this, because I’ve had a number of people ask in general, and I know most folks started out following me on tumblr not for my art, but for my falconry posts.I have some reasons for taking this season off. The first was initially due to my husband starting his career, and wanting to take some time for myself/our relationship, and wanting to travel. With my husband’s career, he is rarely home now, and that’s not been super easy on us. I wanted to make sure I had the time available to spend with him, and that he was not being neglected. I also had some personal things I wanted to prioritize more, namely my writing and my art. And I wanted to travel (which may or may not happen now for following reasons). On top of all of those things, we’re planning to move to another state before the end of the year. That means things are a bit chaotic right now, and likely will be for the next couple months. We’re also (fingers crossed) buying our first home. This is not common knowledge, not even all my family knows, but only a few irl friends follow my tumblr, and most that do are aware of this, so I’m cool mentioning it here. With all of this, it leaves me stuck until possibly Dec/Jan. At that point, I will still need to build a mews, and acquire permitting in another state. Which really doesn’t leave much of a season for me.So I’m pretty well thinking I’ll sit this one out. It sucks, because it would be my 5th season as a falconer, but that’s really just a numbers thing and weird preference that has no grounding in logic.I figure, better to spend this time getting to know my new location, and scouting/obtaining permission for new hunting fields. That way I can rock my next season. No more falconry related depression due to low game/slip availability! (Though I’ll probably still find other reasons to be depressed)I can tell you that I do fully intent to trap and fly a merlin for next season. I cannot wait! I want to fly a couple of passage merlins, and then I might either try a peregrine, or another aplo. Not sure yet!
