Alright a mirror sort of question for your return! The movies!

Which of your OC's would like 20th century movies? What kind would they like best? If they do like movies, what is their favorite movie snack?

Oooo okay so the clear first answer here is that Harley loves 20th century movies, and 21st century movies, and practically any movie from what Star Trek folks would consider “the old days”. He likes popcorn as a snack for the classic feel of it:)) (though he can’t say no to candy or cookies, if that is suggested)

Kirith doesn’t necessarily like the movies (since they’re a little hard for him to access) but he loves the whole “sitting quietly in a dark room with your bestie and a ton of blankets” aspect of the whole thing so much that it balances out😄 His favorite snack is chocolate of any kind!

Jirillu would like very surface level action movies without any deep thinking required, or those feel-good movies for kids that are just made to be soothing:) Of course his favorite snack is mints, though I don’t know if that’s technically a movie snack haha

Phishi likes the kind of movie you can really sink your teeth into. Something that leaves you thinking over the plot and the themes for the next week in the back of your mind. She likes to watch them by herself though, with no snack so she can really focus.

Shrith would LOVE everything movie related. The friends, the snacks, the excitement, the sadness. The only hiccup would be that she is absolutely the person who has to comment on every little thing she notices. Not necessarily a bad thing, and certainly not something Kirith or Harley minds, but most other moviegoers would probably be a little annoyed. Shrith would get a fizzy drink and gummies for her movie treat:)

Ialott wouldn’t really enjoy movies all too much, as a lot of the exciting ones would probably have scenes that could trigger bad memories. He will watch documentaries with Syfic though. Syfic would adore watching all of the nature documentaries available, also with no snack to allow for maximum information absorption.

Tanyl wouldn’t get much out of the visual aspect of TV, as the screen is flat, but he could appreciate them similarly to how he would an audio drama! He wouldn’t want to eat anything so he could hear properly, but he would probably like any sort of movie with a large cast and interpersonal relationships:) (he would especially like mockumentaries/comedies like The Office or Parks And Rec)

For Syfic: Does he have a favorite kind of insect or does he find them all equally fascinating?

For Luric: If he had access to them, would he put any stickers on his AAC device or prefer not to? If so, what kinds would he choose?

Syfic likes beetles best out of all bugs:) he can’t pick between them, but any bug with a hard shell and hidden, delicate wings is going to be spectacular to him:) (rhinoceros beetles are up in his top choices)

For Luric: If he had access to them, would he put any stickers on his AAC device or prefer not to? If so, what kinds would he choose?

I don’t think he would, since he prefers his AAC device to stay as unchanging as possible, but he definitely is the type to put stickers on his face or on his friends. He likes anything small, like stars or smiley faces, and would have a million tattoos if he could afford them:)

Tanyl doesn’t have many hobbies, since boredom or free time is a rather new thing for him since he left his home world. He does like to spend time with friends, especially Phishi. One thing he does like to do when he’s off duty is find an out of service Jeffery’s tube and climb inside of it. He likes the enclosed feeling. He has jumpscared a few engineers quite badly doing this though lol. (Phishi has turned down joining him in this activity).

YAY:DD Sorry for the delay, I have been very sick the past couple of days😅 Feeling better now though!!

Would [Phishi] be able to cook a meal for [Syfic]? Would it be appreciated?

Ooo this one’s interesting! Usually any person making food for Syfic is a no go, since he wouldn’t have the specifics on its preparation process. However (I have no idea how they would end up in this situation) I do think Phishi could cook a meal for Syfic and have him be pretty okay with it. She wouldn’t, just on principle, but if she did, she herself is so particular in the way she does things that I think she could make a list of her steps relatively easily and accurately so Syfic would be alright with it.

What would [Ialott] think of [Tanyl]'s taste in music/art/books/etc?

I guess the first thing is what is Tanyl’s taste in music/art/books? I haven’t thought about it! I think he would love poetry and wordplay, as a puzzle to be solved and then to admire the final result once it’s unlocked. For someone with no words in his native language, he very much enjoys spoken and written words. Any three-dimensional art I could see him enjoying from time to time too. I don’t think he would like music a whole lot, since that kind of concentrated sound right into his ears would make him very vulnerable, as he wouldn’t be able to echolocate well.

As far as Ialott’s opinions on it, Ialott finds anyone with interests and hobbies outside of work very interesting. He wouldn’t really understand Tanyl’s love of poetry/reading as it isn’t something they themself would like, but I think they’d find it cool that he has that kind of appreciation for art.

Hey so random original question for your ocs for any that you have ideas for:

When they're off duty, what kind of outfits do they tend to like to wear?

Oooo let’s see here!! Besides Kirith and Ialott’s which I already told you, we have:

Jirillu who wears comfortable things in bright colors. He’ll wear a dress or skirt when it’s for a specific occasion, but he generally prefers clothes with full coverage, long sleeves and pants, etc. but very form fitting and tailored. He likes to look nice and put together, but he won’t make himself wear something stiff or scratchy for that.

Phishi only owns men’s clothes out of habit, so everything she owns is a bit too broad in the shoulders and too big for her. Most of it is pretty worn and dingy, to the point that you don’t know what color it was supposed to be originally.

Tanyl hasn’t figured out how to replicate his family’s traditional clothing, but if he was back home, he would wear clothes made out of a thin, water-wicking, silky, purple material.

Syfic wears very basic Vulcan robes as a staple. He doesn’t do much variation in his wardrobe beyond that.

I don’t think I have any definitive ideas for the others yet. Thanks for the ask!! It’s fun to think about all this:))

For Ashas: Is there a secret thing your character longs to hear?

Ashas longs to hear that Kirith forgives him. He made a lot of bad choices and said things that hurt Kirith when he was younger, and Kirith still doesn’t trust Ashas fully. All Ashas wants is to be able to make it right. He thinks it's a desire that he keeps decently under wraps, but anyone who knows him can see it clear as day.

For Shaika: What is a topic your character would be excited to talk about?

Shaika doesn't spend a lot of time talking about (or developing) her own interests, but when she and Phishi were together, she could ramble on about Phishi for hours. Ateshi was very often the listening ear, as he could easily relate to that sort of hopeless romanticism. He's honestly more angry at Phishi for Shaika's sake than for his own, or even Luric's.

For Harley: Is there a fear your character wants to learn to overcome?

Harley wants to overcome the fear of making mistakes. For him, mistakes are any time he's short or snappy with someone or shares negative feelings about a person. He wants to allow himself more leeway for imperfection in those areas, but he's trained himself to be only gentle and kind for so long that he doesn't really know where to start easing up.

For Tizzy: What is your character's favorite kind of social event?

Tizzy loves parties! Any interaction where the expectation is to get to know new people is spectacular for him. He loves to get to interact with people from all different backgrounds and ways of life! :))

Ialott is very sweet when it comes to Syfic. They like to put up a more cynical/sarcastic act when they’re around anyone else, but with Syfic, they’re a complete softie. They love to draw doodles of bugs for him and find excuses to pop in his office during the workday just to hang out.

For Luric: 🥛 flat white – what’s something simple but important about them?

Hmm I’d say something simple but important about Luric as a person is his love of words. This comes out mainly in the speeches he writes & delivers, but also in the song lyrics and poetry he writes (though he keeps those private). I don’t think he’d be the same character without that appreciation of spoken and written word.

For Tanyl: 🍯 honey citrus mint tea – how do they take care of themselves (or others) when sick?

Tanyl’s family/species are all very communal and don’t have any stigma around asking for help or receiving it. As a result, it’s second nature to him to take care of his friends very well when they’re sick. It’s strange to him at first when he learns that a sick crewmembers’ friends don’t typically also take off work to tend to them. He finds this callous and makes sure to spend all his time caring for his closest friends if they ever get sick.

Similarly, if he’s sick enough that he doesn’t feel he can be on his own (unless it’s a sickbay level problem), he’ll usually ask Phishi to stay with him for company (though he doesn’t expect her to do all the things he would do for her if she was sick, as he’s aware of the differences in their cultural norms around illness). He’s pretty patient with himself when sick, unless it interferes with his communication even more than he usually struggles, which isn’t a deficit he “allows” himself.

and for Tizzy: ☕ americano – what’s their brutally honest opinion about something that can go for hours?

Tizzy doesn’t believe Starfleet is a “good” institution, mainly because of the way they consistently turn a blind eye to section 31 when it suits their interests. He doesn’t talk about this to anyone else though, as Section 31 isn’t common knowledge, and sharing the extent of what he’s found while researching his lab could put him at risk. (I don’t take any of Discovery’s development on S31 into my story’s canon) (love the show, but did not like how they handled that part)

(All the Ferengi folks besides Phishi are complete hypotheticals)(even more so than the others, that is)(I can’t see those guys really ever being in the position to go to something like this, unfortunately)(I can pretend though!)(maybe for an AU where everyone’s happy and in a good situation)

Loves it:

Jirillu of course! He would probably be the one who planned the outing in the first place. He would make enthusiastic conversation with every vendor and the only thing stopping him from buying something from all of them too, just to make them feel appreciated, would be Phishi.

Shrith would have a great time!! She’d hang around the produce or painting sections until she found a stall that caught her interest, and then she’d spend a good hour or two just chatting with the vendor about their tools, techniques, and inspirations.

Harley would LOVE to see any stalls with antiques! He loves old stuff. He and Phishi would probably cross paths a lot, but he would be embarrassed by her haggling and would want to make sure the vendor gets paid fairly. If he found any old DVDs or VCRs he would snatch them up instantly for any price😄

Ialott would love a place like that. Seeing so many different people with so many different interests and skills would definitely give them some ideas for new hobbies to try out. Plus they can never turn down a trinket or memento!

Ateshi would love a craft fair/farmers market so much. That kind of thing is right up his alley. He would definitely find a way to swap out caretaking with Shaika so he could go even if Luric couldn’t. He would find so much awesome chunky jewelry and would probably spend all of any money he had there😆

Mixed feelings:

Phishi would probably enjoy getting to dust off her bartering skills again, but it would be a weird experience for her. It would bring up a lot of old feelings from Ferenginar, so she would probably be a bit thrown off for a while. She also doesn’t have the stamina for crowds that Jirillu has, so she would probably want to cut the outing short.

Tanyl would adore being around so many people again and all the sounds would give him a very clear impression of his surroundings, which would be nice for him. He wouldn’t be able to really appreciate the objects for sale though if he wasn’t allowed to touch them, so he wouldn’t get as much out of the experience as some of the others. He also would get pretty worn out early on and would likely leave early with Phishi to get away from all the chaos.

Shaika would go, but end up only buying gifts for other people and not even looking for anything for herself. The gifts she would get though would be the most spectacular “did you read my mind” kind of gifts. Everyone loves it:)

Will go but won’t have fun:

Kirith goes in this list, unfortunately. All of Shrith and Harley’s enthusiasm would convince him to go, but with all the standing/walking and the overlapping conversations, he would probably have to stay at a refreshments tent. Which he wouldn’t mind on its own, but since he wouldn’t have a choice in the matter, it would be embarrassing to him. He would probably make an excuse that he had plans elsewhere so Harley wouldn’t worry, and then beam back to the ship.

Syfic also would not have a great time. He would be very excited to go, since there would be a high likelihood of bug themed art pieces, but once there he would be quickly overwhelmed and unsure of the rules of that kind of event. He would stick close to Ialott and avoid any bug related stands to keep from having to interact with the vendors. (Ialott would pick out a few gifts for him though)

Murdoc is somewhere in between this level and the “Wouldn’t go” section. He would have trouble being convinced to, since there would always be some other work that he could be doing instead. He might be able to be persuaded though and would spend the time there mostly thinking about the things he has to do that are more important. He does recognize the need for relaxation and time to unwind in his friends though, so he would heavily encourage them to go have fun:)

Wouldn’t go:

A surprise to no one, Teghe would sit this one out. They might like the variety of vegetables, but there would be so many people there that they wouldn’t even entertain the idea of them having any fun. They would ask Ialott and Syfic to pick up some veggies for Clara though, along with any service gear they see in her measurements and colors.

Luric wouldn’t go since that kind of crowd and chaos wouldn’t be safe for him, but he would send someone else with a list of things he’d like just in case there’s something he would have missed.
