To Bebe: Any advice on coming up with a color scheme for a character?
“Sure! The first thing you want to remember in creating a memorable scheme is to limit it to two or three main colors. You can use a few more for detail work, but you’ll want to limit the main ones so that people can build up an association between those colors and that character. From there, start picking colors and testing them out! Sometimes you don’t know how well a combination will work until you test it, so don’t judge until you see how it looks.
“Also, when in doubt? Take a look at your favorite brands, movies, and shows. They’ve all been crafted to have a few things associated with them-- tough, cool, classy, luxury, cute, relaxed, fun, free-- these things reach a lot of people and change how we think about certain color combinations as a general public. Piggy-backing on that can be a quick shortcut to conveying a specific idea in your color choices, like dressing your cool, techy character in the colors featured on the Matrix movie posters.
“Best of luck!”
