Oh thank you!!! That means so much to me that you’d say that!
Poe Dameron is not one to easily express his true feelings. He puts his best face on for everyone in the Resistance, save for a few people (like General Organa). But even though he might try his best, it’s pretty easy to read how he’s feeling for those who take a moment to read past his facade.
It’s not often that Poe feels a deep sense of melancholy, but it’s usually after the Resistance loses people whether he really even knew the person or not. He wonders what he could have done differently, if the sacrifice was worth it, if someone really close to him (or he) is next. Even though he knows he can’t save everyone, he still really wants to and feels helpless when he can’t.
He’s quieter, more subdued than usual. Poe tries to keep up his usual banter, but there’s just a sadness in his eyes that he can’t mask. His smile just doesn’t quite reach his eyes.
When he’s feeling this way, he likes to be mostly alone. Besides BB-8 (or perhaps a significant other), he really doesn’t seek interaction to distract him from the feeling. He wants to work through the melancholy, not ignore it. Poe really values getting thoughts out of his head and just talking through everything. Sometimes, he just needs to put his thoughts out in the air. Other times, he needs someone to help him sort through things.
Eventually, after working through the melancholy in his own way, he’d gradually start to get back to his old self. His banter is more genuine. His laugh sounds loudly through the hangar. His smile finally reaches his eyes again.
Thank you so much for the ask! Please send me words, thoughts, or anything else, and I’ll give you a Poe Dameron headcanon relating to it!
