When you look back, what do you consider the turning point in your relationship with Hubert?
Oh, that is an interesting question. It is hard to pinpoint an exact moment, really. I feel like there was just...a shift that happened gradually that took us from being at each other’s throats to being reluctant allies to being colleagues to being...well. More than colleagues.
I would like to believe that the beginning of the war was something of a turning point. Edelgard made her intentions known and told us that no one had to follow her if we did not wish to, but I stayed. Despite the fact that she had deposed my father, despite the childish rivalry and my distaste for Hubert and his methods at the time, I did not shirk my duty. Hubert is the sort of person who values loyalty very highly, so I can only hope that helped to shift things in a positive direction.
I think we just came to understand each other better. Instead of going off of assumptions and preconceived notions, we listened to each other. When I first learned that Hubert actually took the things I said to heart, I was surprised, but pleased. And I tried to make an effort to do the same in return.
Perhaps we both just needed to grow up a bit.
