A bit of a shameless self- promotion on my part but there's a bunch of ObiQui Drabbles in my 'my drabbles' tag and (And probably in just 'obiqui' tag on my blog if you want to narrow it down a little).
I APPROVE OF SHAMELESS SELF-PROMOTION!
TONE OF VOICE. i swear to motherfucking god WHAT DID HE MEAN BY THAT Because what I HEARD was "you would love to be sexually 'assaulted' by the Captain and yes so would I" but god what is happen what what what awhahthththth also Bones. idk if he's in love. I like the idea of him being space husbands, for fairness' sake, but I'm just not seeing it. FOUR I think Evil Kirk was wearing eyeliner. and vaguely queercoded. just with how flamboyant he was.
In original Trek, I really don’t see the space husbands slash trio. I never actually saw it mentioned as a fan, in fact, until the reboot. Now, of course, I didn’t go digging (I’m so monogamous in my fic pairings really), so I may have just missed it. Plus my interest in this was pre-tumblr.
But I think the whole trio McSpirk thing hugely shot up due to the different chemistry of the reboot characters. I’m kind of a a cynical nerd-rage fan about the reboot, so the way I see it is they redistributed some of the chemistry more evenly, because the classic full blown Kirk and Spock dynamic if replayed in a modern movie would never make it under the easily-dismissed/JJ-Abram’s-comfort-zone of “bromance.”
I also feel that that is why they put together Uhura and Spock. No homo. (oh god, modern trek shippers, please don’t kill me)
And then there’s the wild card added in of Karl Urban’s ridiculous charisma.
HOW DO I HAVE FEEls for this fifty year old 'ship. my MOTHER shipped kirk/spock. okay so SECOND, Kirk talking about being devoted to his spaceship gave me major Dean/Impala feels too. But the Impala is not so jealous a lover. THIRD so at the end of "Enemy Within" when Yeoman Blondie is ... talking? Like? saying to the captain "no it's okay that your doppelganger assaulted me, I understand," and then Spock says "Yes the doppelganger had many interesting qualities" in that SNARKY MOTHERFUCKER
I KNEW YOUR MOTHER SHIPPED IT!
I KNEW IT!!!
MULTI-GENERATIONAL SHIPPING CULT, BRAINWASHING THE YOUNG SHIPPERS OF TOMORROW!!!
just…watch out for those old zines. I’m telling you…our foremothers were made of stronger stuff..
(oh yeah, I think Spock got a kick out of the two Kirks)
dear fire dearFIRE OMIGOD so first, because of you I know that hand-holding = kissing for Vulcans, SO in "Naked Time", as Kirk and Spock are fighting, and in the middle of punching each other they CLASP HANDS *flails* and look DEEP into each other'S EYES, it's like straight out of fanfic, *flails wordlessly* Kirk is confessing how he loves the Enterprise more than anything, and Spock is confessing how he could never show love for anything, and that's when they realize they're in love
Years later in Star Trek: The Motion Picture, an older, sadder Kirk and an older, sadder Spock will try out these exact same ideas again.
“It’s the Enterprise that’s missing in my life,” Kirk will insist to everyone around him and himself. “Without my ship, I just don’t feel whole, I just don’t feel alive, it’s like half my heart is...”
You can tell no one close to him really buys it though most humor him. McCoy just rolls his eyes and asks if he’s heard from Spock. But he hasn’t...Kirk hasn’t heard in Spock since...well...since that un-clarified event went down and Spock left him.
Kirk bulldogs his way through with his hypothesis though--it’s the Enterprise he needs. And he gets it. Here’s all that does for him:
Meanwhile, Spock will try as hard as he can to prove that he can love no one, by pursing the ritual emotion cleansing of the Kolinahr.
The whole movie then sets out to prove them wrong.
AND THAT’S WHEN THEY FINALLY ACCEPT THAT THEY’RE IN LOVE
so i just started watching Star Trek TOS for funzies and hey guess what my mom would whistle to get my attention? She would whistle THAT FUCKING INCOMING COMM SOUND. ooEEoop. Guess how many feet I jumped when i heard that fucking sound. This has been a story, from me.
Headcanon that your mom has actually been acting out some sort of secret plan hatched by the original Kirk/Spock shippers 50 years ago. The plan is, of course, to brainwash their children, with a a mix of auditory and visual cues, into embracing their rare (at the time) aesthetics.
You’re possibly a Kirk/Spock sleeper agent now.
You may have just been activated.
Beware: If your mother is a secret slash agent, she may have kept her old Kirk/Spock zines. If encountered, they are best kept glanced at out of the corner of your eye. Do not attempt direct contact. I repeat: do not attempt direct contact.
Hi fire, do you watch Once upon a time?
Hello!
I tried to, but I just couldn’t get that into it. There was a certain...Disney-esque character predictability and borderline moral preachiness (or something, I’m not sure exactly what my criticism is; it’s hazy) that rubbed me the wrong way.
I kept watching until eventually I actively hated Snow White, could barely stand Emma Swan, and only rooted for Regina...and then I stopped.
OK.
I just got a couple asks. (*cough* YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE) and I have so many gleeful reactions I just...I just need a sec. wILL GET BACK TO YOU SOON
