Delia reaches out to press her fingertips against his own in an attempt to wipe away that crestfallen expression painted on the lines of his face; she slides her fingers up until her palm is flat against his own, their fingers splayed together between them, and offers him her brightest and most compassionate smile.
{★} — he stepped down, trying not to look long at her, as if she were the sun, yet he saw her, like the sun, even without looking. she shone with brilliance, captivating the attention of those surrounding her. he, too, had fallen prey to her innocent charm. his intentions were innocuous; he had no desire to devour her, just yet. it took every fiber of his being not to swallow her whole, he wanted to savor every second with her. PERHAPS SHE’S THE ONE TO FILL THE EMPTY VOID IN MY CHEST. of course this was wishful thinking, as he’d sit at the counter, day after day, growing more and more enamored with her. their idle chatter, the way she’d treat everyone who came in and out, the attention she had reserved solely for him.. it left him feeling as if he’s on cloud nine.
for him, this was the most exciting part of the chase. trying to figure out how the other person ticked. with delia, compassion was what came to mind. he wished to be embraced by her radiating compassion, enveloped in her warmth. it made his stomach flutter. he wanted to pick up that out of tune guitar sitting by the foot of his bed, for crying out loud! she made him sing, she left him a sappy mess. yet there was an overwhelming feeling gnawing at his conscious. something seemed amiss. howl knew not what to do and it left him wondering where they stood. bouts of self doubt would come over him at times, completely out of character. it left him wondering just what he was doing here and why he continued to linger around. howl, however, dispelled such thoughts and knew that it was nothing but a hindrance. those thoughts would subconsciously linger, however, and it would make itself evident upon his face.
delia had caught him off guard. he sat at the counter, like every other day. but it was apparent that he was deep in thought, his frown creating fine creases across his pristine skin. his thin brows were furrowed together as he was hunched over deep in thought, toying with his cup of coffee. he hadn’t noticed how she had come to stand before him. when her fingers touched his, that’s when he noticed her. eyes of emerald look up at her. her hands, soft and delicate against his own... she slides her fingers up until her palm is flat against his own, their fingers splayed together between them, and offers him her brightest and most compassionate smile. howl perks at this sudden touch, his fingers clasping around hers, thumb rubbing against the back of her hand. his frown vanishes almost immediately, his lips graced with a wistful smile. there’s something about the way she smiles at him that calms his restless, fiery, tempestuous soul. the brilliance of the curvature of her lips gracing him with her ethereal presence. this moment was ephemeral; he knew it would be short-lived knowing the nature of her job. her attention on him at one point, then on someone else when they stepped through the threshold. regardless, howl held her hand in his own, bringing it up to his lips to press a chaste kiss.
she smelled of sweets and flowers, pleasant on the nose. howl deeply inhaled her scent and held his breath, eyes sliding closed for a short span of time before opening them once more. he brought her hand back onto the counter, and let it his own hand gently rest atop hers. his smile wasn’t wistful anymore, rather, jovial and charming-- just as before. enchanted by her touch he felt his stomach doing back flips. for a man with no heart it felt as though he had one, just for this brief moment. a deep breath of air was taken, slowly exhaling with this newfound calmness.
❝ hello love, ❞ he crooned, his thumb idly rubbing against the back of her hand. ❝ don’t you know, smiling like that? its not good for you; someone might whisk you away... away from here-- ❞ howl stops half way, realizing his words. instead he offers a wink, before releasing her hand and resting his chin in his palms.
if only he knew that her heart was already taken, then he wouldn’t try so hard. his efforts wouldn’t be in vain.
