I struggled with the idea of Sam living alone, but only for about an hour or so after I finished watching. Then I realized how much more meaningful it was that Sam continued living, honoring Dean's sacrifice and final wishes. Plus he continued the Winchester legacy with Dean Jr. =D And the soulmates ended up together for the rest of eternity too! I adore the finale and I watch it often haha xD (and I'm upset by the whining from delusional others in the fandom, but I try to ignore them lol)
I think there are a handful of people that felt as you did immediately after the finale, in regards to Sam going on alone without Dean. Just because for so long, we wanted them both to go out together. For a long time, that was the way I envisioned the ending as well tbh. But when I watched the finale, that barn scene and Dean’s final words to his Baby Brother (sobs) were so heartfelt and complete and EXACTLY what they needed to be. And sure, Dean’s journey ended halfway through the episode, but his heart and love was carried every single day for the rest of Sam’s life. He was never alone, not truly. ;A; It was (and is) perfect. And as for ‘that side’ of the fandom. It makes me laugh honestly. That’s all I can do anymore. At the end of the road, we got our Brother’s ending and nothing else matters to me. <3333333333333
