Silver and Gold
Silver. There is silver in Jensen's hair, the golden ring on his finger catching the light as he runs a hand through it.
He stands in their bathroom before the mirrors, bed sheet wrapped around his waist, one hand clasping it against his hip to keep it from falling free. The light is bright, but warm--Jensen's always hated fluorescent light--and he thinks it flatters him slightly.
Behind him, he can see Jared move into the room, the bare expanse of his broad chest, the padding of his footsteps against the tile so much quieter than Jensen would have imagined he could be. Jensen can feel Jared move up behind him, the warmth radiating from Jared's skin, so close to touching Jensen. Can sense him lean forward, and then feel him, hair brushing against the shell of Jensen's ear.
"Happy birthday," Jared whispers, and turns his face, pressing a kiss in the hollow behind Jensen's jaw bone.
Jensen reaches back, wrapping an arm around Jared's neck. Jared's eyes meet his in the mirror, holding for a moment before they travel down Jensen's body, hungry as they trace out every curve of muscle.
"You are... so beautiful," Jared breathes, and goose bumps ripple across Jensen's skin with the heat of Jared's breath against his bare shoulder. Jared presses a kiss against the tender skin where Jensen's neck meets his shoulder, and Jensen shudders, eyelids fluttering. Jensen tilts his head back, resting it against Jared's shoulder and sighs out a contented breath. Warm hands close on Jensen's bare shoulders, Jared's lips kissing up the column of Jensen's throat.
"You make me feel young," Jensen whispers.
"You are young." Jared breathes out a laugh, and turns Jensen to face him all at once. Jared looks him up and down again, more than lust in him now; love and admiration and worship. "No matter how old you are, you'll always be gorgeous. And smart, and kind and amazing." Those hazel eyes meet Jensen's, so intense and sincere. "And I will always love you."
Jensen hadn't known all those years ago, when they'd been strangers doing a line reading, what they would become one day. How Jared would fit neatly and perfectly into his life, like he'd always belonged there, until he'd become necessary, irreplaceable and forever, filling up the space beside and inside Jensen until sometimes he felt like he might burst with love. He hadn’t known and he never could have guessed. But every day, he’s still so goddamned grateful.
"And I..." Jensen swears, "will always be yours."
“I know,” Jared says, and grins, warm and slightly wicked. He wraps his arms around Jensen’s neck and leans in close, warmth of his breath against Jensen’s lips. “Now how about we get you back to bed, birthday boy?”
“The bed is too far.” Jensen leans in, kisses those smiling lips, and lets the sheet fall to the floor.
