Sudden nostalgia about Mysme and Jumin

More than ever I am sorry for his true fans because his stans who like him for the B2 are literally the people who hurt Jumin's all his life

There's a real irony with it

I think it's really the otome game that made me feel the closest to the characters

It's pretty amazing, isn't it? That you can have huge huge fans of a character that love them or claim to do so and they'll miss huge aspects of their interactions with them as a player, or be willfully ignorant to parts they don't like. Like I respect people who love a character but also like seeing them in horrible places, but the BE2 Jumin fans, by and large, don't like it for the twisted, nuanced reasons, they like it for 'Haha rope me up daddy, my rich hubby~' bullshit.

It's been a looong time (almost 3 years now!) but I'm curious what were your final thoughts on Ray's AE + Jumin's DLC?

I think Ray's AE really emphasized Another Story Saeran is nothing like CS/DS Saeran. As for Jumin's DLC... it was so forgetable.

I never actually played Jumin's DLC! My friend did, the person who played Saeyoung in the blogs, and at the time when they were going through it they fed me information, and I remember none of that information really compelling me to play it (nor the art really) because it sounded similar to how they did the Rika DLC: pile on as much terrible drama and abuse as possible for the sake of it. Jumin's past was bad enough when I thought his mother had basically abandoned him and he wasn't yet willing to accept that fact and his most present step-mother flirted with him. His real mother being a crazy woman that puts him in a cage? Like, come the fuck on.

I did play Saeran's AE though, and yeah, he's a completely different character than OG Saeran. I found it kind of sweet, the DLC, but honestly Saeran was kind of unrecognizable to me throughout it, even if I thrived off of Jumin and Saeran talking directly for a single scene lmao. iirc Saeran and Saeyoung's relationship doesn't really get repaired either, and that's tragic, because I'd much rather the brothers be happy again than MC get to be with Saeran on a private resort island that Jumin just...gives them.

I don't know, I don't like the extra content so much. Another Story was fascinating so even if it has flaws, I enjoy it and what it brought to the table, especially in reflecting on the original route and the implications. But everything after that is...eh. When I reminisce about Mysme, I don't reminisce about either of those, that's for sure.

v was manipulated into being bad. he did it for love that's not the same thing

V was a villain from Day 1, anon. Cheritz was notably confused when people begged them for a route to date him in because, not only is he clearly hung up on Rika and thus extremely emotionally unavailable, he’s a bad guy. Motivations are cool and all but mean literally nothing if a character’s actions hurt everyone around them, which V’s do, over and over and over again and, in the Saeran AE, he doesn’t really feel sorry about it.

Rika abused, drugged, and tortured people, but it’s because she just wanted to be loved and accepted, so I guess it’s okay, right? /s

I’m gonna be honest- it’s been a wild four years and I sincerely don’t remember a lot about early mysme. But I’m fascinated by smth you mentioned irt cheritz- do you have screenshots or links on them being confused by the fandom wanting v content? I feel so out of the loop with earlier stuff with him as well as the developers so I was just curious! It would help explain better to me why his route felt. Kinda weird idk? It’s also been a while since I touched that too

I don’t unfortunately, but I definitely remember seeing people talking about it, and I feel like I recall seeing screenshotted email correspondence of someone asking for the route or asking for clarification regarding Cheritz creating it. I don’t have any of those things saved though.

V and Saeran’s AS routes are both very weird, because Cheritz had to fundamentally change them to make them emotionally available to the player, because neither of them were really written to be interested in her romantically. Even in Saeyoung’s bad end where Saeran tortures MC and sends him pictures of it to torment him, or when he recruits her in the Day 1 Bad End to be his assistant, he never really expresses romantic interest whatsoever. And V is hung up on Rika utterly and completely, so Cheritz had to bend and twist a lot of things to make them able to be romanced at all. V I think they changed way less since they had a lot less of him established, and they had to change Saeran a lot because they had much much more of him established thanks to the Secret Ending.

Of course, them changing V as little as they did made most of his route getting him un-obsessed with Rika rather than him actually falling in love with MC haha so it’s not all that satisfying in that realm I don’t think.

Love that theres more people getting into Maruki/Akira! Your art looks really good too. At what point in the game did you start shipling them, if you don't mind my asking?

I actually wanted to ship them from the character trailer release of Maruki, as insane as that sounds. I knew he’d be the final bad guy, and whether his derpy kind persona at the time was just a ruse, I knew the writers would do something good with it, as long as they didn’t just clone Adachi. Luckily, they didn’t do that even slightly.

I actually started doubting my ship for a bulk of third semester since the game is just /ardant/ about ShuAke, and it’s like, actually compelling in P5R, unlike how it was in vanilla P5? But then they just wham bam bamboozled me with the Content throughout that last fight and I could’ve cried with happiness when Maruki dead ass looked at Akira with awe and said he had a strong spirit and “such bright eyes.”
