In your pokemon Au it seems to be canon that pokemon have relatively longer lives than humans. And it also seems that Dream is much more protective and caring for pokemon aswell. So does Dream just see less value in human life? Which might be the reason why he's so willing to do things at the expense of others? Yet when it comes to pokemon he'd hold one close because its mourning its mother.
you are very observant! yes, pokemon does generally have longer lifespans, but death will come to all eventually. he may be the antagonist but at the very least, he knows the pain of losing a loved one.

other than flashbacks, all characters are about a few years younger than their irl age (e.g. tommy's 18 irl, so he's like 14/15)
Tommy has a Pikachu as his starter
i saw someone ask this, so yes, dream's Eevee is named Patches!
Patches is a female Eevee, but i initially drew her as a male
Tommy currently has 3 pokemon; Pikachu, Riolu and Larvesta
Larvesta is named Clementine

the short answer: dream's goal is to create a world where nobody has to die, a place where no one needs to mourn the dead anymore.
despite his generally good intentions, he has been led astray abit (power got into his head) and kinda does whatever he wants
