Hey, I tried to answer this before I passed out but I was stoned so I didn’t think I was communicating well enough.
Firstly, I use mkv rips of 1080p files. It’s important, esp with older stuff to get the most high quality files you can get. The bigger the better.
A lot of it comes down to sharpening too. I use an action that runs through the crafting process of the gif and sharpens it via smart sharpen after converting to smart object. And then I put colouring on top. The gif tutorial by @kylos is one of the best on tumblr, so I reckon, give it a read over and see if anything can help you get them gifs looking bee-you-ti-ful
