The rain beat hard on Nathan's shoulders, scolding him to find shelter. The ship was too far to run to and all the shops seemed to be locked up because of the storm.
"Eduardo," Nathan cursed under his breath, "I thought you weren't supposed t' sail through storms." He wished that the navigator, or anyone for that matter, was near so he could throttle their necks. It was just perfect that they left him stranded there on his own.
After darting from overhang to overhang, Nathan spotted it, a small house with the a light flickering in the window. In his desperation, he knocked. The rhythmic stings of bitter rain cut into his cheek as he waited. There was still no reply.
Grumbling, he knocked harder, finding the door creaking eerily open. Despite the candlelight he saw in the window, the place was pitch black. Stepping inside to inspect this odd shack, the door slammed behind him, followed by a crack of thunder and a flash of lightning.
Suddenly, the room brightened, flooding with the sounds of people chatting. Horseless carriages zoomed past his eyes. What were those things? What just happened? Where was he? Who were these people? Why were they dressed so differently? And more importantly, how would he get back?
