You had a post a while back saying you were gonna rant about the canary and coalmine thing AGAIN...what rant would that be? 👀
Oh boy, you're opening a can of worms here lmao.
(A very fun can of worms that gives me lovely lovely brainrot every time I lift the lid :3)
I've actually made a post about this before (god knows I can't find it right now), but the long and short of it is that I've see too many people call Tango the coalmine to Jimmy's canary.
Except...he isn't. He's not.
Tango is not the coalmine.
The coalmine is the thing killing the canary. The coalmine is what the canary is trying to warn people against, and the coalmine is what the miners have to make a glass tank to save the canary from. Tango's not a danger to Jimmy like that. Tango's not a threat.
Yeah, yes, Tango takes Jimmy's first life in the Life series (3rd Life, Dare to Flare), and also causes their first mutual loss of life in Double Life (creeper explosion). But I don't count that as volatile enough to make Tango the coalmine.
No, Tango, in my eyes, is the coal miner. The one that's in just as much danger in that coalmine as the canary. The one who hurt the canary by bringing it into danger in the first place, and regretted it. The one who is so very grateful for the canary that saved his life/gave him hope/helped him by providing bright colors and beautiful music in a dangerous place, that he built a glass oxygen case to save the canary's life in exchange.
So no, Tango is NOT the coalmine. The Life Games are the coalmine, and Tango is just the miner that journeyed into danger with a canary, Jimmy, at his side. They save each other and support each other in a place that has potential death around any corner. (Not every corner, but any corner.)
The Canary and the Coal Miner. With teamwork and camaraderie like that built right into the metaphor, how can anything else possibly be a better fit?
